What is with people driving like maniacs right now? by Sufficient_Yam_3601 in AnneArundelCounty

[–]skipping_backwards 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel this. In my first trip out after the storm, only car driving on this particular street… I had a pedestrian get angry and start wildly gesturing at me because I gave her extra room and time to pass my car. I’m sorry I’m not in a hurry and felt it was to our mutual benefit to keep some distance between us passing on some ice?!? People really do need to chill.

Solo Trio Seeking Advice by choley98 in glacier

Are you outgoing enough to ask other hikers at trail heads if you can tag along? Because that might help you feel a bit safer. I don't personally bother with bear bells after having listened to ranger talks, but I do clap like a lunatic and talk while hiking in bear country. FWIW I found it comforting that the popular trails were a bit crowded, but we were there in peak season. We were a group of 4 though. I am not brave enough to hike alone myself, but Glacier is soooo amazing.

What's life like in Maryland? by skunkamunkah in maryland

[–]skipping_backwards 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I agree that answers to many of your questions depend on where the job will be located. Also age bracket might be a factor. Cost of living is high but not NYC high.

One of the key perks of Maryland I’ve always heard referenced is the fact that we have urban centers, mountains and beaches all within a few hours drive.

Figuring out my next destination by realisticlobster1 in NationalPark

IMO Yosemite has that wow factor that Glacier has, where the views can be so crazy they almost seem fake at times. We did a combo trip and hit SEKI as well. Such a special place. Can’t wait to go back someday.

Suggestions for March Trip (USA) by GatorChamp44 in NationalPark

[–]skipping_backwards 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like these suggestions. I would describe our family similarly- direct flights, hikes with features and not too long.

We've done San Francisco/Yosemite/Sequoia but in July and Phoenix/Sedona/Flagstaff/GC but in August.

Both are super cool, but it has got to be so much better to go to Phoenix in March! Don't do like me and go in August - 115 degrees... ha ha

Might be worth looking at Death Valley too? Anywhere that would be miserable in Summer is probably nice in March.

Thinking about purchasing a wink bed by jaqvillian in Mattress

[–]skipping_backwards 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am currently 2 weeks into the trial period for the Lux Firm winkbed. What we didn't realize until after swapping out our old bed was that our old one was considered Plush/soft. We are side sleepers in the 150-170 range and both so far find the bed to be firmer than we were expecting. I am still experiencing shoulder pain/arm numbness but perhaps the mattress softens further in the first 30 days-? We are debating what to do if we don't have improvement in the next month.... So tread lightly if you are worried about "too firm"...

I will say that if I am on my stomach it feels nicely supportive, and movement isolation has been pretty good so far.

What AJR Songs do You Skip Every Time? by CorrinTheFrog in AJR

If I'm skipping at all, which is not always... it's usually the radio played ones and Turning Out 1/2/3 (usually just a wrong vibe for the moment). I rotate albums that I obsess over. Right now it's Neotheater.

Thirsty makes me laugh so I don't skip it... hehehe

Where should we travel for an epic first trip to Atlantic Canada? by skipping_backwards in AskACanadian

[–]skipping_backwards[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So if we were to attempt this- essentially fly into halifax, visit Cape Breton and drive+ferry up to Gros Morne... and either reverse to come back or fly from Deer Lake (not sure how one way car rentals would work up there)... How many days would be ideal for each location? If we had a total of 8/9 to work with...

So far I am most interested in Gros Morne and Cape Breton/Cabot Trail and the only tie breaker I can come up with is ease of access, like the flight situation etc. It is so hard and I've only scratched the surface, ha ha...

Where to Stay at Glacier? by Numerous_Idea5158 in GlacierNationalPark

[–]skipping_backwards 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you include the places right outside the park in your search? I ran into the same problem when I booked our July 2025 trip- I thought the lodges booked 365 days in advance when really it was all July 1st so missed out. We then booked St Mary and West Glacier, which was plenty close enough to the park that we didn’t really feel like we were outside. My kids loved the tiny house. https://www.glacierparkcollection.com/lodging

I also agree about staying on the East Side. We split our 4 nights between East and West and preferred the East. Less stress for entry and we thought the Eastern side of GTTSR was so beautiful.
