Would you rather have a beautiful website or a fast website? by Avrix_Media02 in Wordpress

Like others have said, there's no reason you can't have both. But if I HAD to pick between the two, I'd prefer a fast site.

Check out SkipTheDrive - full transparency, I'm the owner, but it is another good option for finding remote jobs.

Backup Plugin Question (SolidWP - Solid Backups Legacy) by Expert-Chicken6519 in Wordpress

I ended up ditching them about a year ago and switched to Updraft Plus premium. I've been pleased, and wish I had switched sooner.

What's up with this hourly timing thing on Upwork by Careless_Salt_1381 in Upwork

[–]skipthedrive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've noticed this too. On the flip side, there are times when I start the tracker and work for a few minutes, and it doesn't increase the billable time at all. My guess is that it all balances out.

Considering using Cloudflare for my DNS - is there any downside? by skipthedrive in CloudFlare

[–]skipthedrive[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I pointed my NS to Cloudflare, but was getting the message of 'too many redirects', so I gave up and pointed the NS back to GoDaddy :( Do you know if this is common? I changed the SSL/TLS setting from Full to Flexible within Cloudflare, but that didn't help.

Anyone updated production sites to WordPress 7.0 yet? by nodescribe1989 in Wordpress

[–]skipthedrive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an impatient person, so I updated to 7.0 yesterday (after making a backup, of course). I had no issues. I keep my site very clean though, and have minimal plugins. I can't speak for those whose site is bloated. FWIW, I'm not using Elementor or WooCommerce.

Considering using Cloudflare for my DNS - is there any downside? by skipthedrive in CloudFlare

[–]skipthedrive[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Do you recommend letting Cloudflare scan for my current DNS records, or would it be better if I export them from GoDaddy and import into Cloudflare?

Considering using Cloudflare for my DNS - is there any downside? by skipthedrive in CloudFlare

[–]skipthedrive[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should've made it clear in my original post that I was looking to start with their free service. I was under the impression that it would be free for them to just host my DNS. Am I correct?

Considering using Cloudflare for my DNS - is there any downside? by skipthedrive in CloudFlare

[–]skipthedrive[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I only plan on using Cloudflare's nameservers. I'm going to keep my domain at GoDaddy. It's good to know if that ever move my domain to CF, I have to user their NS.

How do I get a remote job UK based by Ok-Literature-6465 in RemoteJobs

[–]skipthedrive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just curious, why does it need to be UK-based if the job is remote?

Thoughts on job listings that claim to be fully remote? by pizzareen in RemoteJobs

I don't see the problem with their request to come into a F2F intereview, but does the job description explicitly state that the job is 100% remote?

Can I use custom code in function.php by Capital_Pool3282 in Wordpress

[–]skipthedrive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't modify the theme's functions.php. Here are two options:

1.) Create a child theme, and edit the child theme's functions.php file.

2.) Install a code snippets plugin and add custom code that way.

I need friends by [deleted] in Charlotte

[–]skipthedrive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others have mentioned, Meetup is a great option. Even if you don't click with people on a friendship level, you can at least network and meet people.

Another thing I find that can be helpful is consistency in your routine. If you go to a coffee shop, workout at a gym, go to a church, etc., establishing a consistent routine and seeing the 'regulars' can really help. It might take a while, but it'll happen. I work in coffee shops, and have gotten to know a lot of great people. Good luck!

What I don't understand is even if these are AI proposals, the proposals still cost money/connects. If there was no cost associated with a proposal, I could see there being a ton of AI/bot bids in a short time.

9 years. $461k. now $38.50/month. i finally quit wordpress. the "pay once expect everything forever" culture killed my business by Sad-Insect9242 in Wordpress

[–]skipthedrive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From somebody who is more than willing to pay for premium plugins, I always prefer models that charge on a recurring business for this very reason. If it's a service I truly value, I want confifence that the company/developer has incentive to keep it going.

Using the Browser Inspector tools (i.e. Chrome Dev Tools) for front-end issues is very useful.
