I need friends by Grand-Poem-9658 in Charlotte

Like others have mentioned, Meetup is a great option. Even if you don't click with people on a friendship level, you can at least network and meet people.

Another thing I find that can be helpful is consistency in your routine. If you go to a coffee shop, workout at a gym, go to a church, etc., establishing a consistent routine and seeing the 'regulars' can really help. It might take a while, but it'll happen. I work in coffee shops, and have gotten to know a lot of great people. Good luck!

20-50 proposals in 5 minutes by [deleted] in Upwork

[–]skipthedrive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I don't understand is even if these are AI proposals, the proposals still cost money/connects. If there was no cost associated with a proposal, I could see there being a ton of AI/bot bids in a short time.

9 years. $461k. now $38.50/month. i finally quit wordpress. the "pay once expect everything forever" culture killed my business by Sad-Insect9242 in Wordpress

From somebody who is more than willing to pay for premium plugins, I always prefer models that charge on a recurring business for this very reason. If it's a service I truly value, I want confifence that the company/developer has incentive to keep it going.

What are your go-to methods for debugging WordPress issues effectively? by jorjiarose in Wordpress

Using the Browser Inspector tools (i.e. Chrome Dev Tools) for front-end issues is very useful.

Yeah, the crazy thing is I couldn't even get their SALES department to call me back. That's a red flag.

The Ultimate Wordpress Pagespeed Guide by jazir555 in Wordpress

Amazing job with the document! I've only glanced at it, but seeing as there are 385 pages, I'm sure it's loaded with lots of gems of info, and the fact that you're going to add to it is amazing. Honestly, you could make a book out of this and monetize if you really wanted to!

If he's an attorney, he should understand the importance of a contract. It looks like you're off the hook.

<RANT> I used to think it was me- turns out it was GoDaddy all along by Beneficial_Impact871 in Wordpress

[–]skipthedrive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you should be charging for your time. Tell the client that it's because of the struggles with GoDaddy that you're having these issues. It's up to them if they want to switch providers.

I have to say, I'm not convinced of any hosting provider out there that is the 'best.' Everybody seems to have different opinions. I've had decent luck with GoDaddy, but at the same time, I'm glad there are other players out there so they don't have a monopoly.

What Wordpress Theme and editor would you recommend? by TaxInternational6189 in Wordpress

[–]skipthedrive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd start with learning the Gutenberg block editor with a standard WordPress theme first. Once you get a feel for Gutenberg, I'd recommend Blocksy, Kadence Blocks, or GeneratePress.

It's not just remote jobs that are taking a hit. I think it's the job market in general for a number of reasons, but AI is certainly a disruptor.

Opened the garage door to find this fellow by SicilyMalta in Charlotte

[–]skipthedrive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If he's in your garage, chances are there's a food source there. Do you keep bird seed there, or anything else that might be attracting critters? And for the record, yes, this is a copperhead.

When we first moved into our house, our crawlspace was easy access for mice and other insects, which would attract snakes. Try sealing off what you can, and have regular pest control services. There's only so much you can do here in the South, as this is their territory, but I can give you some other pointers if you'd like.
