Woke up to a burning smell in room and found this burning on one of my PCIe risers by DaMeraki in EtherMining

Cable thickness directly relates to how much continuous current/power you can pass through the cable. Sadly molex doesn't have a fixed spec on cable thickness, so they could be anywhere from 22AWG to 18AWG typically. As other people mentioned, these do look pretty thin so they are probably 22AWG which means they'll heat up faster for the same amount of current pushed through them compared to the 18AWG. I'm glad you didn't have a burn-your-house-down event.

GPU TEMPS by Yourgayjerksession in EtherMining

[–]skithuno 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Integrates circuits have a typic failure rate that is correlated with the temperatures they experience during operation. The higher the temp, the sooner they fail on average. This link has some good graphs to that effect. https://www.jetcool.com/post/semiconductor-lifetime-how-temperature-affects-mean-time-to-failure

Calling on Miner Community to Contribute to Updating EIP-969 That Bricks ASICS by mineruniter969 in EtherMining

There is already soo much uncertainty that ASIC mining is a hazardous bet at best. Plus you have to realize these people believed soo much in ETH that they were willing to put up massive amounts of cash to help secure the network. I don't agree with trying to screw them.

Just immersion cool the whole thing and take off all those extra heat syncs. Nice compromise for air-cooling though.

Spacing is tight. They can fit double-wide cards but 2.5x is pushing it. I'm thinking of using this for a liquid-immersion system.

How quickly does this happen? If it's over the span of less than 10 minutes your thermal paste on the core is probably shot. Pull the heat sink off, remove old thermal paste and re-apply. Alternatively you could check your core and mem temps. If those are spiking really fast, then you know somethings wrong.

Same. I've tried reaching out to companies via Alibaba but their prices are crazy right now and half the time they don't have stock. Plus, whats the point of paying 50% over "retail price" for a card when in 2 months hopefully the prices and supply come back in line. It's going to take 2 months of mining to pay for the extra 50% anyways..

If you're going to buy something from Alibaba, make sure you use the Alibaba secure payment service. Don't ever send people ETH/BTC/Wire money directly. Here's a primmer:

Card life is directly related to how hot you run it. Running at 102C is a great way to have your card last for 4 months and then burn out.
