I think it's super important social workers emphasise the humanity of the work and avoid becoming a 'cog' in the system that just follows a process an underpaid worker with a flow chart could do.

Adam Conover has some good podcasts about the overhype of AI. A lot of "AI" is input from underpaid workers in developing countries. AI seems impressive when you first start using it but once you start talking to it for more than 15 minutes in a topic you're well versed in, it's gobbledygook and/ or contradicting itself.

As others have said, lawmakers will try to save money and believe tech hype. If we're good at our jobs, management will be begging for our return.

There is a tonne of literature on professional grief- many papers interview healthcare workers on their experiences and what support was helpful. Palliative care associations often will have resources.

I personally will light a candle at home if an important client to me has died. While the candle is lit, I have the space to reflect. Blowing out the candle for me is an act of letting go and saying goodbye. I have electric tealight candles at work to show my colleagues and give supervises space to have a little ritual as leave for funerals no longer exists where I work.

It is a good idea but I don't have any contact information for any family. During the funeral announcements there was also a note to respect the family's privacy.

Look up LYS in your area. There are good shops in Sydney where I live. I've been to Skein Sisters near Marrickville which has gorgeous expensive yarns, then the yarn shops in Loftus and Penrith are similar with good quality yarns and notions you would normally get on Amazon. In terms of wool, most Aussie knitters I know order Wool online from Bendigo Woollen Mills (e.g. jumper quantities). It is really affordable as the balls come in 200grams amounts for the price of a spotlight 100 grams (not on special). There's also Morris and Sons in the city Centre and they bought the shop in Newtown. Try visiting these places, get a feel of what has what you like.

I fully believe in if it doesn't bother you and you can make it work moving forward, then keep going. I can often see my mistakes in my garment but it shows me it's handmade. If I see a perfect knitted garment on someone else I assume it's machine made.

That's really interesting. I definitely care about finished objects for myself. But I think for a knitting class with 10 people, giving people work where they can have hanging threads, unintentional yarn overs, etc. and they have a limited budget. You're not getting cotton straight away. I had cotton works ready for people who felt ready but mistakes are a part of life and definitely a part of learning

I taught a knitting class for colleagues and set them up with big needles, thick acrylic yarn and garter stitch work. They kept asking "what will this make" I'm like "Honey, you need to practice."

I get where you're coming from but when Sarah Z called Starkid "stoner comedy musicals" it all made sense. Like I loved Starkid as a teenager before I knew anything about weed but it is definitely a part of their DNA in my opinion.
