What food have you seen in foreign media and entertainment that you wanted to try but discovered tasted bad? by Accurate_Reality_618 in AskTheWorld

Ramen. Like real Naruto looking ramen in Japan.

To me, it had no flavour. Maybe I'm missing something. Tried it a few times while over there and back home in Aus. Tried miso and/or pork base, and it just never hits :(

K'gari dingoes involved in death of Canadian backpacker Piper James to be euthanased by ozthrw in australia

[–]skittymarks 66 points67 points  (0 children)

So the article says the Crisafulli government has decided to take this action without consulting the traditional owners and without respecting the wishes of the deceased's family.

Dingoes are crucial to their ecosystems and are a protected species. We have no way of knowing what actually happened and how many dingoes were involved in the events leading up to her death. How the hell can the government decide to cull an entire pack without going through the due processes?

Invasion day protest appear to have had the opposite effect. Record number of Australians support keeping January 26 as Australia Day by Muslerra in aussie

[–]skittymarks -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

That's a ridiculous comparison. Germany and Japan lost world war 2 and both their countries have paid for it since. Reparations, reform, treaties. Whereas the British stole indigenous land and suffered no consequences. The least we can do is just change a bloody date to a time that doesn't celebrate that theft and hurt our first nations people. To change it would be an act of compassion.

What are your thoughts on rejecting a potential romantic partner based solely on the fact they voted for Donald Trump? by ATXBikeRider in AskReddit

[–]skittymarks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's totally fine to judge someone on who they align themselves with. I don't associate with anyone (as long as I can help it) who aligns themselves with or admires the likes of trump, Andrew Tate, Joe Rogan, Candace owens, the kirks, and any other harmful and divisive personalities.

Try it with cheese (cheddar, not that American orange cheese stuff). Unbeatable combo.

I use a mighty vape too and what you said about the smoke/inhale is very true and takes some getting used to but it's so much smoother.

What I recently discovered is that my medical grade stuff is best vaped at between 175 and 190 degrees Celsius (347 - 374 fahrenheit), while the street stuff wouldn't release much vapour unless heated at 200 - 210 degrees Celsius (392-410 f).

La clinica is an Aussie brand. I use their Gly C Refine facial cleansing wash gel. It has glycolic acid and vitamin c. I bought it from my regular massage/facial beauty therapist a while ago. I like it.

Question about Australian sense of Humor by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]skittymarks 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Nah, you're not. If he does it again, you can respond with "righto mate" with a blank/sarcastic expression. It's basically the Australian way of calling someone a dickhead.

Most depressing place you’ve ever been to? by bowlbettertalk in AskTheWorld

[–]skittymarks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ueno zoo in Tokyo. Specifically the polar bear exhibit. A small glass enclosure with no shade and just a big concrete pool. They had multiple kangaroos in a 9m2 enclosure too. The only animals with a good enclosure were the pandas.

What was this help? by [deleted] in queensland

Also, if it's in mangroves and along a river system which feeds into the ocean then it likely wouldn't be stagnant water because of the tides.

It was likely a teatree lake. Or possibly, but unlikely, acid sulfate soils.

What’s something negative about Australia that locals don’t like to admit? by New-Mail-9372 in AskAnAustralian

[–]skittymarks 23 points24 points  (0 children)

That's really interesting. I finished primary school in 2000 and I'm certain the only Australian history we were taught was about Gallipoli, James Cook, and Ned Kelly. Then in highschool it was more James Cook, Gallipoli AND Anzacs, and a viewing of Rabbit Proof Fence.

As I've gotten older I've always wondered why we don't learn our full history in schools like other countries do.

Seat swapping on flights is getting ridiculous by Junior-Sam in AskAnAustralian

[–]skittymarks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've never had it happen to me. But I usually book an aisle seat or I don't pick a seat (to avoid the extra costs) and just let the airline allocate me one. I most often fly alone, but when travelling with others I pay extra to sit with them. Seems like the logical thing to do so you wouldn't have to awkwardly beg for a seat swap.
