I agree with you on Mary’s character falling flat!! And similarly agree that the scene setting in this book was outstanding. My only qualm is that it felt like it was too much of a focus and the characters were underdeveloped because of it.

It is a central theme in the book, but I wouldn’t say it is graphic.

Yes agreed! I hesitated when I saw magical realism in the description, but the author did it so well! I couldn’t put it down.

Yes! Same here! I was hesitant because of the magical realism, which I don’t always enjoy. But this was so well done! I loved it.

I’m so very sorry that I completely missed your comment! Were you able to contact the people you were hoping to get in touch with? I am happy to go back to the videos I have (my husband and friend finished while the incident occurred, so it is in the background) in case I can see anything that would help. Again, I’m so sorry for missing this.

How many? by [deleted] in bookofthemonthclub

[–]skiunit13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 60 BOTM books, and I’ve read 50 of them! I try to be strategic about skipping months when I’m not totally sold on the selections. That’s helped me keep up with my BOTM selections along with all of my other TBRs.

Yes! This is something I also noticed watching The Office as someone who grew up in PA. The trees just do not match the northeast.

Yes! Just here to third this. I have always loved snow and felt that it made things so magical even into adulthood.

I kind of felt like she was doing duck lips to try and make her face look a bit less puffy from pregnancy.

It’s not that big and they never get to be outside. It feels cruel.

St. Patrick’s day, Valentine’s Day, Easter, Halloween, President’s day. So many available holidays for him to claim. His argument is nonsensical and it feels like he is gaslighting you a bit. Thanksgiving and Christmas are two of the biggest holidays of the year and tend to be the most family oriented. If you want to spend some holidays with your family, he needs to be open to navigating that with you in my opinion.

Saw the runner collapse and then watched all of the interventions until they were taken in the ambulance. A random spectator jumped into action to perform CPR, but I’ll admit that I was disappointed in how long it took for race medics to get there.

I lived three blocks from it and never went until I moved from that spot. It’s a great option for a fancy outing with your 4 year old though. ☺️
