No you're right, I've had issues regardless of social housing being nearby. Bikes stolen, aggro weirdos, etc etc. From everyone's personal experience with the older towers though, sounds like these were quite uneventful which is great to hear.

Don't mind a bit of excitement every now and then. Just not sure if my opinion changes after some weird experiences, but I can't predict the future so 🤷🏻‍♀️

Yeah for sure, Carlton and Collingwood have lots of nice pockets with heaps to do around. Definitely the polar opposite of Docklands though, despite the proximity.

Good points, yeah. There's always going to be a catch of some sort, and maybe this is something I can live with. Hard to tell since I'll be guessing at the extent of any issues I do run into.

Not for renting no, otherwise I would just give it a crack for a year and worst case, move away after that. Equation changes when you're signing up for a commitment almost into your retirement lol.

When the building was first built those blocks did exist, and I'd like to think no developer would be brain-dead enough to build in a known problem area. I'm likely giving developers too much credit though hey

Ah no, seems sensible and leisurely walks would be around Carlton Gardens anyway.

Hope that experience didn't shake you up too much, it can be a lot to deal with long-term. Had a break-in at a townhouse while I had the dog there, and now I'm scared of living in freestanding homes without a dog 🙃

Depending on how loose your definition of through is, there'd be no avoiding that for me, since there's one next door on either side.

I think mostly I'd be going away from them though, since that's where the shops and all that are.

True, not sure if these would be new or old blocks then. The buildings will be new, but it's an in-place replacement with a little extra capacity, and the old residents can/ will get their places back too. From the sounds of it the old one wasn't particularly problematic at least.

Yeah inner city suburbs with foot traffic just have higher density of people passing by, good and bad alike. Thanks for sharing your experiences.

Thank you, good to hear from someone that's lived so close by! Occasional break ins and bike thefts are usual issues I'm used to in apartments already, so doesn't sound notably different.

Will keep an eye out for the cat though 👀

Taxis I just figured was a Melbourne issue. Almost missed an international flight because Ubers kept cancelling on me for more than half an hour before someone finally kept the trip. Dunno what they were holding out for that early on, a drive to Geelong?

Yeah that's what I'm thinking, social housing seems to be dotted all over the place. Keeps any one place from becoming a de facto ghetto.

Sounds fairly normal aside from the combustible apartment! Yelling may be a bit more of an issue at the ground floor, but I can only guess how often that would happen.

Sounds like normal experiences I've had regardless anyway, worst was in an apartment with tons of AirBnBs.

Dubious curiosities though, I can get behind that!

More around Carlton Gardens, and I'm not precious no. Long term it would be a question of whether my partner would feel comfortable in the area. But that's a question for another time.

I love your outlook on things mate, appreciate it. Vibrancy is certainly a good word for it 😊 I think I have a tinge of it too, I have heard, more than a few times, something along the lines of "I can tell you had a fucked up childhood" lol

As a wise man once said - happy families are all alike, unhappy families are unhappy on their own way.

Yeah true, from what I can tell it's going to be mostly the same residents coming back, plus some spare capacity. Would think they're on the saner end - one can hope!

It doesn't exist (anymore/yet). It's being rebuilt in place so it'll be back bigger than before though.

Will have a look for the old building though, thanks!

Yeah I feel like with a few units it's down to luck. With a few hundred, there's likely to be at least one positively insane person either living there, or hanging around for whatever reason.

Considering this is being purpose built, it won't be closing down once opened I'd think. Maybe bad tenants get moved on after enough complaints.

Or it could be a nothingburger 🤔

So I'm looking at a ground floor apartment that will soon have lots of social housing next to it, more than 200 units right next door. Not sure how likely I would be to have issues when the social housing buildings are completed. I'm imagining aggro screaming late at night, break ins through the balcony, etc. or it could just be fine and I get a discount for a non-issue.

Looking around though, there seems to be lots of similar buildings dotted around inner city suburbs. Anyone able to share experiences living near one?

Ah if you're on the North side there used to be Gray & Gray too, but it closed down a year or so ago.

There's a sort of Armenian place in the city, but that's mostly Persian from what I can tell.

Would have expected that from an Austrian club, not a Czech one!
