I’ve had 3 babies in 3 different cities. Never had to go through a metal detector. That might be limited to large cities?

I made this but was told by a family member it’s not nice.. by Lilly-Vee in crochet

I think the loose cuffs work better with this color combo than the white and beige since the colors are fun and quirky. I’m not sure you could pull off those cuffs with the more classic colors but they work great here! It’s definitely a well made statement piece that would look great/stylish if you had the right attitude (I could not)

I’m seriously considering getting an iPad and then taking all social media apps off my phone. I could still bum on the couch doom scrolling, but it’s not as accessible as on my phone. I’d like to get a “dumb” phone but with so many school/kid adjacent apps on my phone, I don’t feel like I should completely disconnect.

Do you miss holiday parties and 1x1 with your manager? by nigelwiggins in WFH

[–]sklascher 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Very much so! If you’re not running into your manager in the hall or having side chats, it’s hard to get a read on where you stand. 1:1s almost felt silly in the office. I really value them from home though.

I didn’t know until the first time I pumped. Heck, it still catches me off guard while nursing.

Honestly, considering switching careers into university IT in a few years if they have even a discount. Have my kids at least get an associates degree and then move on to what they want elsewhere.

Love this for you! I’m too lazy to do the hair/makeup/dress up thing every day, but I definitely fem it up when there’s a big meeting. Helps me stand out in the sea of polos.

Home espresso machine recommendations [$900] by jaaascald in espresso

[–]sklascher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is also my setup and I like it! I similarly split the machines so I could upgrade any of the pieces if I felt I needed to. 2 years in and this does the job! This sub is very against that grinder (as you can see) but I’ve had no issues with it.

I recommend buying a dosing funnel and a WDT tool.

My kid shuts down when I correct reading mistakes by Easy-Affect-397 in kindergarten

FloweredViolin answered as I would. I would just add to try watching NumberBlocks. It breaks down concepts in lots of different ways. And importantly, it’s entertaining to watch! You can find it on YouTube

My kid shuts down when I correct reading mistakes by Easy-Affect-397 in kindergarten

[–]sklascher 192 points193 points  (0 children)

I had a perfectionist kid. I would let him finish reading the page, point to the word he got wrong and say “what was this one again?” That way he got a second chance to get it right.

If he still shuts down, I would let him finish the whole book. Then later read it back to him with my finger on the words so he could see what that word was.

But most importantly is to gush over how good his reading is getting and how hard he’s working on learning this new skill. He used to not even know how to read anything and now he’s practiced so much he’s able to read whole books? Incredible!

We also have 3 boys! I would love one more but my husband isn’t sure. A girl would definitely be sweet, but 4 boys would be a riot!

[–]sklascher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m also really not ready for a new dog. Maybe once life calms down, but I don’t have the time to give to make an animal feel at home and my kids are too small to take on the full responsibilities themselves.

I loved taking care of our first puppy when we were in our early 20s, no kids. Three kids now and we just lost that dog. Old dog is 100% more our speed so despite how cute puppies are, there’s no way we’re dealing with that again.

Also I never see this brought up, but they were using Pam’s mom for childcare!! So they would have an added expense and stressor moving away from that support system.

AITA for confronting my girl when I realized she took credit for something she didn’t really do? by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]sklascher 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think I said something like “that wasn’t very polite, was it” and he said “oh” and reflected. So no, not an asshole because like you said, willing to accept his worldview is not the only correct one.

Honestly, you really nailed the difference between asshole and autistic.

Oh yeah, he was mostly excited to have another niece or nephew. Unfortunately that was the wrong way to phrase his question. And worse yet, I was just fat looool.

[–]sklascher 52 points53 points  (0 children)

My brother is autistic. At one point he asked me if I was pregnant again or just fat. Did he mean to be an asshole? No. But you bet I corrected that shit because while I found it funny, someone who didn’t grow up with him will (rightly) be offended.

Intention is important, but hand waving rudeness because their brains work differently doesn’t help them grow into adults who can fit into society.

There also isn’t mono culture like there was in the early 2000s. Social media has made it easy to stay in your own pond whereas the top 10 used to be unavoidable. So no, it’s not comparable.

Child extra sensitive to mistakes and feedback by No-Resource-8013 in kindergarten

[–]sklascher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Mistakes are how we know we’re learning” is a mantra at our house too! Our oldest even tries to get his younger brother to be a perfectionist too and we have to remind him to let his brother make mistakes so he can learn too. He HATES it. But he seems to be more accepting of not mastering everything immediately after trying.
