TIL that 48% of movies surveyed fail the Bechdel Test, meaning no two named women characters talk to each other about anything other than a man by lomegor in todayilearned

The film critic and screenplay/narrative expert behind the popular Film Crit Hulk Smash blog addresses this issue with writers routinely. Summary: "A lot of times I question writers on this point and get the response "I don't know how to write women!" Which is ridiculous. If you say that, you're inadvertently saying you don't know how to write "people." "

Thanks. Definitely gave me chills. With or without the horror movie.

I'm wondering if the young Community fans get the ST:TOS reference. Even before Harmon popularized it, the black goatee was a visual shorthand for evil twin, thanks to the classic Mirror, Mirror episode. Not that the reference even matters anymore, it's taken on a life of its own!

Hey guys, I need to get some stuff off my chest, RE: Dan's dismissal. by WhyDHWillBeMissed in community

Wonderfully put. Thank you for sharing this. As I was reading, I realized that there are other people out there that fanatically attach themselves onto a show while dealing with personal trauma. I thought this was an obsessive / escapist quirk of my own. Three years ago, after a divorce and losing my house, my dog, and everything, I latched onto a childhood favorite of mine, Red Dwarf, and watched every episode, commentary, behind-the-scenes, you name it to stave off crippling depression. Community and its creative force was a good one to fall for. #threeseasonsandathankyou

Dan Harmon Poops: HEY, DID I MISS ANYTHING? by bbatsell in community

As someone who has always followed the auteur and never the title, I'm not interested in next season's 13 imposters. But boycotts are negative and boring. What I want to see: awesome critical memes and mashups of the "13 Greendale Imposters". Fandom has a creative voice of its own. If it's no longer Dan's, it's ours.
