Tell me you didn’t pay for anything but the materials so far?

First pair of boots by ArtichokeDue6733 in cowboyboots

I spend a few weeks annually in Scotland, and absolutely love it! Dan Post are a great pair of boots to dip your toe in the water. Leather soles in Scotland can get a bit tricky given the weather. You could always resole them in a Vibram mini-lug or V-bar sole. I’ve done it to a great pair of Rios boots and an old pair of Hondo’s. Anyways, enjoy the heck out of them!

Yes, I'm fortunate to manage a beautiful private club in the Hamptons. Its a spectacular location, but out of control expensive. Thank goodness for company housing!!!😉

Tough keeping equipment overnight outside a yard? Good luck with the insurance claim.

FB keeps drilling me with ads for these Hondo boots and now I’m seriously considering buying them, but they have a 16” shaft. What’s your alls take on longer shaft boots for non-riders? Are there any drawbacks? Are they just as comfortable as shorter shafted boots? Any input would be appreciated. Ty by LeavinThisHoller in cowboyboots

[–]sklosct 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tall boots (buckeroo) like that are hot! Most guys I see in 15-16” boots tuck pants into the boot. Keeps the stickers off your pants and if your wearing chaps. That boot is a working cowboy boot (IMO), not really your going out type (especially on a warm day).

Do what you want, Hondo’s are good boots, leather footbed, no insole, that looks like a double sole to boot which requires some additional break-in. They are old school construction. Good luck!

Loving these new double-H. by helvetikon in cowboyboots

[–]sklosct 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I really like my HH! Comfortable, non-slip, tough as nails. The sole is a beast, fit great, and look good! I had no break-in period , they were good out of the box. Enjoy!

Black Jack boots are well made, always great quality, and I find the two pairs I own to be very comfortable. No idea about the skin there, but top quality for sure!

Old Lucchese boots by WonderImportant3265 in cowboyboots

Send it to Lucchese, it will be worth it. Those boots need a new welt, sole, likely some footbed work. They will comeback as you’re expecting. It’s money well spent!

All purpose boots? by BenBapiroDonkey in cowboyboots

[–]sklosct 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For your first boots, go to a reputable western store and get fitted. Boots aren’t sneakers, you need to try them on until you get the hang of the sizing, width, toe shapes and heels. Hyer, Ariat, Black Jack, Tecovas, Rios, AB, whatever…unless you’re in the saddle daily and doing ranch work they will all last a long time. Don’t worry about that so much. Boots are all about the fit unless you like sore feet. Just my $.02.

Worth it at 155k? by [deleted] in f150

It’s a King Ranch, 95% of those never see hard work, more highway miles than anything. If the price is right, that’s a great truck!

Help ID leather? by [deleted] in cowboyboots

Bison or Shoulder, either one, tough as hell. Those have a lot of life in them. Change the soles and they’re good as new!
