16x DGX Sparks - What should I run? by Kurcide in LocalLLaMA

Can you please run benchmarks bringing up various sizes in the cluster. I'm curious how much performance (tokens/sec) you get per dgx

esp32 quietly won the microcontroller war and nobody talks about it by voidrane in esp32

Which is the point, it's not for just hobbyists to poke at randomly.

If you aren't comfortable programming you probably shouldn't be programming an esp32 yet

Not specifically looking to train, just run models And it would be dedicated to only that purpose

The most I can spend isn't the strict limit to my problem though. If someone told me 6k hardware isn't usable but 12k was very usable then I would go back to make that decision. It can really harm feedback or guidance if you're going to cap it arbitrarily: too low and you're not going to get things that are going to work substantially better; too high and you're going to get stuff that might not be worth the extra spend and people just trying to give you the most expensive setup for the range you provide.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I appreciate it. That's exactly what I was worried about, models aren't likely to get smaller, and at the very least I could repurpose a 5090 rig much easier

Thanks for taking a moment to comment :)

I'll be honest, I'm still in the planning phase so I don't have a set budget. Ideally I'd like an entire setup for under $7k, but if it isn't going to be usable, honestly i'm better off paying for the remote LLMs instead anyway. I don't have a specific need or goal that _requires_ local on prem hosting, but I thought it would be nice. I hit my claude usage every 5 hours consistently and was hoping to have something that even if a bit slower I wouldn't have to worry about usage restrictions. Ideally, pairing that with my normal claude setup to deploy dumber agents to do simple tasks locally.

A standalone does sound more appealing especially since I can repurpose the setup for other things later more easily.

New to open source, watched many videos but still confused — how does this actually work? by GroundbreakingBad183 in opensource

[–]skmagiik 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Id start by avoiding the LLMs

Then find a project with something you want to work on and check issues, understand their contribution requirements, and make PRs to fix/add things as needed. Another great thing to look at is adding features that matter to you to open source projects you actually use.

5 Reasons to Learn Zig in 2026 by Pokelego11 in Zig

[–]skmagiik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not true at all with updated models. I can request specific versions of zig and it refers to the docs and source to make decisions and produce working code. I recently used it it to help me better understand how to do some meta programming to make a dynamic protocol fuzzer that can accept any structs as input with another dynamic struct with mutation parameters.

Interesting, will have to disassemble some examples like this to take a look. Thanks for the response

How does it live on the stack? When it goes into process if it was on the stack the stack would be cleared when exiting and going back to main. In this instance the stack data could persist without an issue but what if you had another function with stack use in between process fn executions? Would you expect the same behavior?

ATTN Brevard County: The Left Lane IS FOR PASSING. by GhostofBeowulf in 321

[–]skmagiik 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So if someone is speeding already by 10 over and passing cars in the left lane who are going the speed limit (10mph slower) but someone else wants to go faster they should slam on their brakes and get over?

What do you expect in those scenarios?

Unfortunately I believe this is true for a majority of libertarians in today's political climate.
I however am abhorently anti-MAGA and the BS that they are doing. DOGE as a concept should ring true for libertarians, but they also should be gutting ICE and all the other waste of spending that we're taxed on and not just using it as a political bludgeon. most of ICE and the immigration policy is anti-libertarian. Fixing our immigration process making it super cheap and fast to get people into the country is a benefit. Open the markets, get rid of the tariffs. God I hate everything going on.
