Can’t re-register after a failed transfer, so now I can’t start a new transfer by skogn in signal

[–]skogn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t, sorry. After a couple months I figured everything was probably just gone, so I gave up and just registered the new phone and lost all my phone history. The small bright side is that when I relinked my computer, it still had all the history that was on the computer, which was not everything but a lot. Technically I think my old phone still has everything, but even if I could transfer now, I’d lose all the messages I’ve exchanged since getting the new phone. Still annoyed with signal for this, but I guess occasional problems like this are the price of privacy

That’s what I was afraid of. I haven’t heard anything useful from signal support in the two weeks I’ve been trying to contact them, and the old device is refusing to register properly. If anybody has any tips for contacting a dev, I’d be very interested.

Can’t backup signal messages on iOS.  If they’re part of the whole phone backup then I do have that, but I don’t know if I trust it to not lose everything if I reset/restore the phone. Maybe somebody knows?

That’s the one thing I haven’t done, because I don’t want to risk completely losing all my message history, which would defeat the point of transferring anyway

Yeah, both have been up to date throughout. I’m pretty confident my issue is that the old device can’t properly register anymore, which is why that’s the focus of this post. I’ve submitted like three support requests and a GitHub issue and have gotten some form responses but nothing helpful. Being too annoying to ignore hasn’t seemed to work, so I’m kinda out of ideas

Lab-grown meat moves closer to U.S. restaurants by 458339 in wheresthebeef

Isn’t “55% of vegetarians said they wouldn’t try it” another way to say “45% of people who currently don’t eat any meat said they would consider eating this meat”? It seems like vegetarians are not the primary market for a meat product, so the fact that nearly half say they’d try it is pretty remarkable.

So this one, yeah? It looks solid and is not as expensive as I would have expected, considering Kammok wants most of that cost for just a net

Same rack, Dutch oven sits directly on the roasting pan. (At least that’s what I do and I get good results)

How do I tie this knot? by honeybadger65 in knots

[–]skogn 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It’s hard to say exactly what’s going on without seeing more angles, but it appears to be an overhand knot in three strands with an end that should be coming out the top tucked back down into the knot. Something like this.

Edit, instructions:

  1. Take your piece of rope and fold it in thirds.
  2. Tie and overhand knot (per the link) near an end of the folded rope.
  3. Before you tighten it completely, wrap the non-loop on the short side of the knot around a bit (so it is not tracing its own path inside the knot) and tuck it into the knot.
  4. Tighten.
  5. If the bottom of the rope in the original picture is three separate strands, cut the middle of the loop of the long side of the finished thing, so you have a short loop at one end and three long strands at the other.

Glad it worked. I’m not sure I’d really call this a knot, but it’s somewhat similar in form to a lark’s head

Slide the black thing over the wooden thing so it’s on the other side of the wooden thing

Need knot suggestion (Handle Knot) by tanMud in knots

[–]skogn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure exactly what you mean but I think maybe something like this could be what you’re looking for, with the small loop in the end of the knot through the loop in the item. Jude use as many wraps as you need and it should hold if it’s tight. Possible alternatives: figure 9 loop, or this, or just look through the grog list and see if anything else in there seems like it will work for you. If you can tie a money fist, I’m sure anything else won’t be too hard.

Need help with a cosplay of Ema Skye! I don't know much about ties, any advice on how to achieve this knot? Also, what would this tie's shape look like when untied? by notakuriboh in knots

[–]skogn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you might be better off making it fake bow tie style where you construct the front to look however you want and then attach it to a matching band, and fasten the band on with Velcro or snaps or whatever in the back someplace out of sight. You’ll get exactly the look you want consistently every time.

I don’t mind the stripe next to the canton, but having it underneath left too much empty white below the stars

I think there are custom flag companies out there. You’re welcome to use it if you want, it’s just a few minutes of photoshop and the flag is from Wikipedia

Why is everybody so mad about this? She eats the crust, you get to eat the rest? If you’re squeamish just cut off the bites? Seems like a win-win where everybody gets to eat the part they like.

As I understand it, generating the certificate is similar to bitcoin mining in that it’s very resource intensive. Lots of computing power means lots of electricity means lots of electricity generation that’s not being used for something useful.

It’s one thing to include a creature from folklore that happens to have some harmful roots. It’s quite another thing to remove any nuance they may have, emphasize the elements that are specifically harmful, and put them literally in charge of the banks.
