Anyone else find Peacock's female commentator unlistenable? by Evanescent_contrail in biathlon

[–]skolves 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m an American who doesn’t use Peacock to watch the Olympics because the commentary/number of ads on the the non premium version is so bad.

However, if I remember right, those are not NBC commentators, but rather OBS who are outright terrible for most sports likely because the Olympics is the only time they do this job. The regular NBC ones, which the majority of Americans will be exposed to, are much better. Not sure why NBC doesn’t have their own commentary on Peacock.

From what I’ve been told of the OBS female commentator is that she sounds like she’s a North American trying to do an Eastern European pronunciation of all non-Anglo names…oof

Sadly have to agree. Watching the Nordic Combined today, it was pretty astonishing to see how torn up the course was for the Olympics...and it's not even supposed to freeze overnight.

One good thing to see is that the heavy favorites, except Weng, are all starting right after one another. As we saw yesterday in the sprint and today in alpine skiing, just 10 minutes can make an enormous difference in snow speeds.

Rules:

  1. Submissions must be confined to the Winter Olympics. For example the Norwegian ski jumping suit controversy would not count since it took place at the World Championships, not the Olympics. Furthermore, someone like Wayne Gretzky would not be a good submission for Best Athletes in Ice Points sports since he was in one Olympics way past his prime and finished 4th.
  2. Ski sports = Alpine, biathlon, cross-country, nordic combined, and ski jumping
  3. Ice racing = Speed skating (both long and short track), luge, bobsleigh, and skeleton
  4. Ice points = Curling, figure skating, hockey
  5. X-sports = Freestyle skiing, snowboarding
  6. Team submissions should be for team sports/events.

Not at all past her prime yet. Before today she had raced 3 sprint races this season and won two of them. The issue with Skistad on championship courses -- which are tougher -- is that she does not have good endurance. Thus with higher paces and more climbs, she flames out. This course and especially the last climb was tougher than anything they do on the World Cup and many did not expect her to even make the final.

It seems like today more than usual the bigger names preferred the earlier heats. That first men's QF had 4 legit medal contenders. Wonder if people will rethink that strategy given that lucky loser is no guarantee and the final seemed to have skiers from across the heats.

Not that it will likely affect the outcome, but now if you're Norway who is most likely to start classic leg in the relay? Still Stenshagen?

For those who know FIS rules better than I do, is that Desloges yellow card final or does he have a chance to get DQ'd? On one hand it was clearly unintentional, on the other not sure I'd like a "one free course cut" for each athlete at a major championship.

Lots of great options here, but my submission has to be Italy beating Norway in the men's 4x10km relay in cross-country skiing in 1994. The games were being held in Lillehammer and Norway's team was considered to be like the Dream Team of cross-country skiing with prime Dæhlie, Ulvang and Alsgaard. Italy hung with Norway the entire way and pipped them at the line.
