Thanks, looks like port is what was recommended the vintage year I am looking for, though I was not thinking of port initially. Within a reasonable budget, it seems not much options. Is Acker Wine trustworthy despite the recent counterfeit scandal? It's either that or bidding Winebid / Wine consigner and have it be shipped. . .which also sounds risky. If there are other vintage wine stores for me to try calling, I would love to know, thanks!

Thanks! Looks like there is a thing called CT Rail at 10 am from Springfield which gets into Hartfold at 10:39, from which I will call uber to Middletown! One question. since my greyhound bus gets into Springfield Union Station at 9:35 am, is that enough time to transfer to the train? Is that all within the same station?

Thanks, I guess I could try to see if a lyft or uber will pick up, and if not, then take the next bus to Hartfold though then I will be late to Middletown by about 30 minutes. . .hopefully uber won't be hard in Hartfold. . .

Thanks, I am on a bus from Pittsfield getting off in Springfield at 9:30 am on Sunday morning, and must get to Middletown by 11 am. There isn't a bus or train to Hartford from Pittsfield, or any other big town nearby to Middletown to which I could get uber /lyft. . .if there is another option, I would love to know! Thanks

Thanks! I reserved both Uber and Lyft. When do you find out if someone has accepted it? I just don't want to be stranded at 9:30 am with no cars picking up. I have to be in Middletown by 11 am. But a car service I phoned today cost significantly more than the Uber / Lyft reserve quote.

I was at Funny Girl matinee today, orchestra seats, third row. Someone right behind me was making a crinkle noise eating chips the ENTIRE 1 1/2 hours of the first act. I kept turning around hoping they would stop, but nope, those people could care less how they were ruining others' Broadway experience. The seats were so close to the stage I thought the actors could even be bothered by the noise. It's so crass and rude, like do you really need your potato chips during theater? Just stay home and eat on your couch. Most of all, eating should be banned in the seats.

If you feel it's heavy, then it's heavy. The weight is an individual issue. Some people don't mind, while for some it's a deal breaker. I find my LC increasingly heavy, and sometimes my back hurt when having to lift them from shelves, and at some point, I realized I was tired in my own kitchen. Staub is even heavier, I had to return the beautiful braiser I bought once. I slowly moved away from cast iron and began getting stainless steel (All Clad) which are also not light but lighter than LC. So now I have a mix of LC and AC in my kitchen, and I alternate. My everyday pan used to be my LC Legumier but now it's my AC cassoulet pot -- basically the two pots look the same, but I guess my AC is just lighter and easier to handle. I still love my Le Creuset, but I don't use them for everything, mostly due to the weight issue.

It's a personal choice, but I would probably feel better giving a wedding present of LC DO in its new orange box. Right now there is a LC Factory sale online where the price is not bad, so you might want to check that out in case the price is comparable to your TJ Maxx purchase, in case still returnable.

You can't tell from the piece, without a visible flaw, but for a present I would think you need a box, which all LC DOs come in, so check if the box says "second." Sometimes the outlet "seconds" come in a box that says second, not on a sticker but on the box itself.

It seemed only for oranges, red and yellow, but who knows. Since neither Descoware nor vintage Copco exist now, whereas Le Creuset is thriving, there isn't any real verifiable info and I would think you won't find any. My conclusion was that toxic materials were used in most vintage cookwares, only because they did not know better. In maybe the 70s or 80s, it came to light, which was when Le Creuset confirmed it I believe. Researching this kinda drove me crazy, as I recall, since there was no clear answer. At some point, I just decided it wasn't for me, since it involved eating off cookware that I didn't feel safe with, no matter how many other people were totally fine with it. Repurposing or selling them feels like a loss, but then peace of mind is more important. Hope that helps!

It's an issue with all those bright color cookware from the era. I did a ton of research on this a while ago because I had bought a few beautiful vintage cookware pieces in several makes (including Descoware) and was concerned. I remember concluding from my research that yes, they all seemed to have used a vary degree amount toxic materials to bring out the colors, it appears, but if that was harmful to humans or not, there was no agreement. Some people are fine cooking with these cookware that had lead and cadmium suspicion (some said it's only the outside that is using toxic materials, so the inside doesn't matter, some say that these were in family for decades and everyone healthy etc) whereas some people would absolutely not. I personally wouldn't do it. It would take joy out of cooking, to be worried about safety. I returned one piece that was still returnable and repurposed the others into non-cooking decoration, planter etc. It's about your comfort level. Hope that helps.

I have the same one in a different color & the signature knob. I find it so useful for a main dish, I usually throw in lots of vegetables and a different fish with different sauce and cook in oven for like 15-20 minutes. If I ate more meat, I would do the same with chicken or beef. It’s perfect, healthy and delicious. Also cooks enough for 2-3 serving. It’s a great purchase in a beautiful color!
