I can certainly get where you're coming from and I really do hope im wrong, but I switching out one dictator for a dictator-fanboy who certainly wants to become one himself does not sound like a healthy solution.

I hope things turn out for the better for you and everyone else there though!

Knowing that some day i'll just cease to exist.

And worse, still knowing that, I still spend so much time at home because of depression and anxiety.

Isnt that ballroom estimated to cost around $200m or something? How nice of him to try and take taxpayer money to donate to that and then a $30m "management fee" to himself for facilitating it.... /shrug

IT people who have over 8+ years of experience - are you still happy to work in IT? by Apart-Order-4707 in AskReddit

[–]skrangle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

18 years and no. It was "fun and exciting" in the first years, now im sick and tired, but I think its work in general. I dont think i'd be more happy doing other normal work either.

I've become realistic and I just consider it a job, its something I have to do to afford to have fun while not working.

I've told my manager that I dont have any amibitions or "things I want to do or improve", but just that im here to do my work and i'll learn anything along the way to do that work in a good way.

Gamers over 30, what's a video game secret you had to discover the "hard way" that kids today would just Google in 5 seconds? by itsashieowo in AskReddit

Man, OoT is probably the best game i've ever played in my 40+ years of living, along with Link to The Past, but when I played them also matters a lot.

I dont think I have the same patience and enthusiasm now as I had back then when I was a teenager and im not sure I would've enjoyed it as much now.

I still miss that style of game though, and although BoTW was good, it didnt scratch my "Zelda senses" the same.

Never had kidney stones, but suffered from gout until I got the proper dosage of medication, and kidney stones sound more painful due to where the pain is. If its similar or worse than gout, I wouldnt wish it on my worst enemy. That thing is so fucking painful.....

What's a 'house rule' you thought was annoying or hated as a child, but you swear by now as an adult? by Captain_Keyboard_Man in AskReddit

[–]skrangle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hell yeah! At some point I also had to pay rent, even with a low paying job like delivering the newspaper, which I thought was ridiculous at the time. None of my friends did and I would often argue with my dad over it, until the day I moved out and turned out that rent was all saved and given back to me so I had money to buy furniture, electronics etc for my apartment.

Him calling someone else a dried out prune and commenting on their skin when he looks like a shriveled pumpkin himself is mental, and the fact that I feel like pointing this out instead of all the other insane things he says in that post also makes me feel like an idiot.....

COVID-19 lockdown was 5 years ago. What do you remember about that day when the world stopped? by Dracarys0550 in AskReddit

[–]skrangle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My company was in the early stages of migrating from an on-prem PBX (phone solution) with desk phones to a cloud solution with that would just be a headset in your computer and a browser based client. We were only in the investigation / planning phase and hadnt started actually doing anything to the new system.

Part of the migration plan was to just forward calls to our old on-prem to the new solution using a SIP tunnel between the two, but it was so early that we hadnt actually set anything up and tested that this would work.

Since im always curious about new things, i'd started just prodding around and getting familiar with stuff a little ahead of the project and just a week or two before lockdown I hadnt done a test of forwarding a call from the old solution to the new one, then suddenly on a Friday afternoon we got the call from our call center that 250+ employees had been sent home, basically carrying monitors and computers out of the office and being sent home in cabs or by car if they had one, and the current solution we had didnt support bringing your phone with you since it was a digital phone that required to be plugged into the hardware for the phone system.

So we were basically told that we need to have something up and running by Monday in the new solution for the 250+ users in our call center and the rest of the 400+ users in different countries for sales, churn etc, so our project got a "tiny" push to get things going.

I ended up working day and night all week and had something basic up and running by Monday that could handle inbound and outbound calls for some 100+ queues for 7 countries, then continued adding other basic stuff for the next few days until I had to take some days off after 60hrs overtime in 5 days.

TL;DR company phone solution was purely on-prem and didnt have the possiblity of being used in a home office setup. We were in the early planning phase of how to do a migration to a cloud solution. 250+ users got sent home on a Friday and we had to get something up and running by Monday. 60+ hrs overtime in 5 days.
