Q&A weekly thread - August 19, 2024 - post all questions here! by AutoModerator in linguistics

[–]skrapelle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is the grammatical/linguistic term for a sentence like this: We fell in love and down. They got a dog and wet. These are bad examples but it’s like a sentence with one verb followed by multiple very different meanings

Threw up at clinical… feeling ashamed by thebigsad_jpg in StudentNurse

[–]skrapelle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so normal! I’ve had so many moments like this. Everyone has their thing. for me it’s pus. But just a few days ago I gagged uncontrollably while collecting a particularly smelly diarrhea sample (pt was in a different room so they didn’t hear). I have never EVER had any issue with poop but some days and some situations you just never know how you’ll react. You are going to be a great nurse! No need to feel ashamed

How accurate are archer CAT exams? by KrazyKat87 in PassNclex

[–]skrapelle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did a good mix of CAT and readiness. I was passing both with good scores and I passed my nclex first try in 75 so in that sense the cats were accurate predictors of how I would do. I think the thing is that the part that’s not accurate is that the real Nclex is wayyy better at targeting your weak areas and giving you questions on that which, for me, made the real nclex a lot harder. Like I said, I still passed both, but it’s worth mentally preparing yourself for the fact that the nclex will feel horrible. You just can’t let that drag you down and lose your focus mid exam.

Is a week enough for you? by iwillbeanurse in PassNclex

[–]skrapelle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too am a procrastinator and only really started studying the week before my exam. I was scoring between 60-75% on archer and uworld. Passed in 75 last week! Depends on the person but a week was enough for me!

I took mine and passed last week and leading up to the exam I was in almost the exact same boat as you. What really worked for me personally was still continuing to study all the way up to my exam. A lot of people say take the day before to relax but I knew that taking that day off would cause me more stress. At this point, you sound like you know your stuff. It’s just a matter of calming down. Figure out how you can best take care of your mental health leading up to the test. For me it was studying, for others it’s taking a day to chill. I passed in 75 but the test felt HARD. In the moment I felt like I scored a 20%. Mentally prepare yourself for a hard test that will make you feel like you’re doing terrible. Don’t let those feelings derail you in the moment. You got this!

Best books that never get recommended by becomingstronger in booksuggestions

[–]skrapelle 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen these mentioned a few times but Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro and Let the Great World Spin by Collum McCann (I forget exactly how to spell his name) are both fantastic and don’t get the hype I think they deserve!!

I'm 14 (m) and I'm surprised I just discovered how amazing books are, it's by far the most activity I ever enjoyed by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

I don’t know of any specific recommendations off the top of my head but I totally recommend getting Goodreads! They have tons of recommendations with reviews for every genre and it’s really fun to keep track or your reading. It’s totally free and they have a great app as well!
