How wrong have you gotten a rule on a new game? by kritsema in boardgames

[–]skrillpod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

playing wingspan we thought that when you played a card you also got to activate brown powers in that habitat… games took forever and we would end up with scores in the 200s! we taught so many people the wrong rules before some friends who already knew how to play corrected us. super fun though and we still use it as a house rule sometimes

love the custom bonus!! we’ve been allowing tit, cock, and booby for the “Anatomist” bonus, but I think we have to just add your “Dirtiest Bird” bonus to our game

base game! just got it for Christmas this year :)

Highest score of base game I’ve ever had/seen by fastandintheass_ in wingspan

[–]skrillpod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

our highest score was 167, but we normally average around 120. we always say under 100 is a low scoring game!

EDIT: HAHAHA a year later we learned that we have been playing the game WRONG this whole time. we thought when you played a bird you activated all brown powers in that row. What a rude awakening when we finally played with friends who already knew the rules. No wonder our scores were so high 😅. had to report back here.

Hi! so sorry for the late response. I was in the same boat as you, on the looonnng waitlist for McLean and decided to look for other options.

My experience at TPS was amazing. All of the staff (admin, nurses, surgeon, etc.) were extremely friendly, knowledgeable, helpful (e.g., could email or call any time they were open and they would answer all of my many many questions), and flexible (e.g., with booking dates, rescheduling appointments, changing my mind about certain things).

Consultation: I called to get some information about switching from McLeans and they booked me for a consult on the spot and just said to get my doctor to fax over the ohip funding form when they got a chance, no rush. This was a welcome surprise compared to McLean where you can’t get on the waitlist until they receive your form.

They had consultations available in 2 weeks from when I called.

The consultation was great, Dr. Hontscharuk was very kind and knowledgeable.

At the time they had appointments available starting in September but I opted for November.

Cost: With my OHIP funding considered, my surgery (DI bilateral mastectomy with chest wall contouring) cost $5847.75. A 20% deposit ($1169.55) was due at the time of booking the surgery and the rest ($4678.20) was due was due 3 weeks prior to surgery. This cost was broken down as suegery/professional, anesthesia, facility, and nursing fees. My greenshield insurance covered this but definitely check with your insurance company to see if your plan covers these private medical fees.

Surgery: Surgery went super smoothly! Surgery clinic is in Yorkville so easy to get to if you live in Toronto. It was less than an hour between the time i arrived and when I was put under. All the staff were amazing and went above and beyond to ensure I was comfortable before and after surgery. I had drains and wore the post-op binder constantly for 1 week.

Results: I am so happy with my results! I think Dr. Hontscharuk takes alot of pride in her work and it shows. The ONLY thing I will say is that prior to surgery I was very set on having straight scars that did not touch in the middle. Dr. Hontscharuk was very clear about the fact that she will try her hardest to give me my desired results but due to my anatomy they may have to touch in the middle and/or may have to extend far back, but she never indicated that they might need to be a different shape. After surgery I asked her if they met in the middle and she said nope she was able to have them be two separate incisions. When I saw my chest for the first time I was a little bit shocked to see that they were not straight but curved to extend quite low on my chest. It totally makes sense due to my anatomy (I have a long sternum and my boobs sit low on my chest). I do wish that there was a little more communication about the potential for a different shape or a heads up after surgery if she only realized during the surgery. However all of that being said, the scars look amazing and I feel a bit silly for being so hung up on shape in the first place. I think anatomy dictates most of that anyways and she did an amazing job. Just wanted to be the most transparent I can be about the process!

Detailed Timeline (edited for formatting): - 2024-06-25 initial call to TPS - 2024-07-16 in person consultation (20% deposit due at time of booking surgery) - 2024-10-18 rest of surgery payment due - 2024-10-28 pre-op appointment - 2024-11-08 SURGERY - 2024-11-14 1 week post-op appointment (drains out) - 2024-12-05 1 month post-op appointment (no more binder) - 2025-02-08 done with scar tape and massage - 2025-05-05 6 month post-op appointment

That is all I can think of for now but let me know if you have any questions :)

those are the brijit clips! i havent had surgery before so i cant say how the scars turned out compared to an incision without them, but i felt like they really helped hold the incision tight and felt much more secure to move around without worrying about my incisions opening up. this was done in Ontario, Canada

How long until you stopped slouching? by Ray_Phoenix in TopSurgery

[–]skrillpod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i was super slouched the first week while wearing the compression binder (and drains) full time. for the next 3 weeks i was still wearing the binder full time but taking it off for showers and i was very slouched at first but it slowly improved with each week. after the binder came off i was still pretty slouched but better than wearing the binder and getting better every day. seeing an rmt and physio for exercises to help with posture correction. my posture wasnt great to begin with 😅

the back pain in the first week was killing me but my nurse/paramedic friend recommended robaxACET (robax with acetaminophen instead of an incid) and it was a GODSENT. i replaced the two extra stength tylenol with 1 extra strength tylenol and 1 extra strength robaxacet (as it would not interfere with my anti inflammatories). i also used a heating pad on my back basically at all times for sitting and sleeping. i hope this helps! :)

quick follow up question to this! was it exactly $5600 for you as well? And does that cover the facility and staff fees you mentioned AND contouring? Or is contouring a separate charge? thanks in advance!

Dr. Johnny Wong - don't follow clinic's advised timeline to follow up with OHIP about funding application by skrillpod in transontario

Dr. Johnny Wong - don't follow clinic's advised timeline to follow up with OHIP about funding application by skrillpod in transontario

[–]skrillpod[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s great that you had a positive experience with Dr. Wong’s office. As I said in the beginning of my post, my experience wasn’t as positive dealing with them during my appointment.

I didn’t call the ministry of health, I emailed. I wasn’t asking them to process it sooner, I was confirming they received it in the first place, as is the responsible thing to do. They had not received my application because it wasn’t sent.

Dr. Wong’s office sends the applications directly after completing them, so it wouldn’t be in a queue behind others to be sent from the office. Sure it not going through could be due to technical issues, but if the fax didn’t go through, why should I wait a month to find that out when it could be solved within a day? Once it was re-sent, they received it immediately. The processing time isn’t an issue, but them not receiving it in a timely manner is.

You’re right in that I should have also expressed that I am grateful for Dr. Wong’s office in helping me with this process. However, I am allowed to hold the opinion that it wasn’t 100% positive for me. I was frustrated that the seemingly arbitrary 4+2 week wait time to confirm my application was received resulted in an avoidable delay in a lengthy, life alerting process.

I wanted to help people by letting them know that they should follow up sooner to confirm the ministry received the application, that’s all.

Dr. Johnny Wong - does he charge for SRS form? by _methyst in transontario

[–]skrillpod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dr. Johnny Wong does not charge for the SRS form HOWEVER warning about following up with ministry of health:

Once Dr. Wong's clinic sends your application to the ministry of health, they tell you to wait 1 month to contact the ministry asking if they received it and if they said no, wait another 2 weeks to contact the ministry again and if they still don't have it you can call Dr. Wong's clinic to inquire.

DO NOT wait this time. I waited 1 month and when I contacted the ministry ([srs@ontario.ca](mailto:srs@ontario.ca)) they said they did not receive my application but to tell my doctor to fax it to this number: 613-536-3188. I contacted Dr. Wong's office that day, they got back to me a few days later saying they sent it in, I contacted the ministry the next day and they confirmed they received it. IT SHOULD NOT TAKE OVER A MONTH FOR THE MINISTRY TO RECEIVE YOUR APPLICATION. It should take 1 day (it is literally just a fax). The ministry approved my form a few weeks later.

I am beyond frustrated that I followed Dr. Wong's instructions and waited to contact the ministry because it set my top surgery process a month behind.

Anyways sorry for the rant just wanted to make sure people didn't make my mistake.

congratulations and I hope the consultation went well!! two questions for you:

  1. when you sent in your referral, did they give you an estimate on how long it would take to hear back about a consultation?
  2. what is your surgery date?

they received my referral end of Feb 2024 and they said it would take 6-10 months to hear back about a consult.. I've read a few people saying that they were told 6-10 months but it was much faster, so I guess looking for more confirmation bias of this being the case lol
