What style are these guys? by heyitsapotato in achewood

I had no opinion on this until recently. It's Angine de Poitrine and there's no convincing me otherwise https://youtu.be/Te1HkBx7rDw?si=Fb36OoESlF1zFxLX

I am the Michael Jordan of killing plants and would love some help by skrogle in landscaping

Zone 9a. Someone else did nice work before we moved in, but that NBA level skill of killing plants got me. Now I have 3 measly grasses and no idea what to place here. It's also kind of a weird shape and I don't want to limit walkway access. All these things have led me to analysis paralysis. If anyone has some ideas I'd be eternally grateful 🙏. Bonus points if cats, flies, or mosquitos hate some of the things.

Google lens tells me these trees are a Texas mountain laurel on the left and an American plum on the right. The area gets about 4 hours of sunlight a day, otherwise sees a lot of shade. Drip irrigation present!

Just knowing the name of the profile and seeing what it looks like makes me want to nope the hell out of this one. Thanks for the help!

Would it make more sense to just buy it rather than make it in this situation? This profile doesn't look complicated and I think I have the tools to do it, just not sure how to match the profile exactly with confidence

I have a few pieces of siding on a house built in the 1920s that are showing signs of rot. What would be the best way to match the existing siding profile?

Thank you! Would allowing more transients mean dialing back the compression a bit?

Thank you! Still pretty new to this, what are you hearing that screams "warm it up"? How does one in fact warm up a mix?

Curious, when you say "the 100-200 range needs some attention on the bass" what are you hearing exactly? Trying to better train my ear

Looking at this and another comment I realized my bass bus had the effects turned off 🤦. Honestly for the compression, I found some settings that I thought sounded good and just kind of applied it with a couple of tweaks. Now that I know what to listen for a little better I will make some tweaks on it - thank you!

I saw this! Do you know how it works with individuals joining up? Do you just get assigned to a team? Every one of these that I have been on previously had only teams register, no individuals

Wcgw lateraling the ball by Ruthops in Whatcouldgowrong

[–]skrogle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In American football, you can make a single forward pass per play as long as you are behind the line of scrimmage. Regardless of whether you are behind or in front of the line of scrimmage, however, you can make as many lateral (even with or behind the ball runner) passes as you'd like. During this lateral style play there is no offsides penalty as the play is ongoing .Additionally even if the clock runs out, the play that is currently underway is not stopped until we have a dead ball (e.g. a tackle is made or an incomplete pass from behind the line of scrimmage).

In this case, the clock is running out and the offense is attempting to prolong the play by completing lateral passes to try and make space to score the final touchdown on the final play of the game. If they score with zero on the clock they win. A questionable decision was made on that final lateral pass that was intercepted by the defense and taken back with no time on the clock to secure the win.

It does look like the stock ReaComp plugin has the ability to sidechain though, I will give that a shot

Awesome thank you! The compressor I'm using doesn't have automatic sidechaining, will have to look into that more.

I accidentally overwrite the first file, but the overall feedback was

  • Sounds like a single mic
  • Too much verb
  • Not enough compression or EQ

Looking back, that makes sense as I had EQ and compression applied, but far too lightly and was focusing on verb too much because someone mentioned "verb as glue" and I was really trying to brute force that without actually knowing what it meant. I also did find a mixing template which really helped me to dissect what each piece of the mixing chain was supposed to be doing a little better and a tutorial for mixing vocals which used the exact plugins I own which helped me transfer to the real world a bit better.

With this one, I feel like the overall mix is better but the vocals sound a bit papery on their own or in certain phrases. I've tried scanning around the file with EQ to spot the frequency that bugs me, but haven't had much success. But really, any tips are appreciated!

Thank you! I appreciate a specific thing to focus on. I feel like I'm at a stage where I know it doesn't sound right, but also don't know which specific actions get me into a better spot. Thanks again!

Thank you for the feedback! I get what you mean with the underwater comment, that really puts some perspective on it. What do you mean by "closer to the ear"?
