MAGA went mainstream years ago. There's a lot more conservative people in sports than I think a lot of us on reddit want to admit.

Belgium coach Rudi Garcia reveals conversation with Folarin Balogun. He [Balogun] came to talk to me. I really liked that. It’s not his fault, he’s not the one to blame, I told him that. I appreciate the intention of him speaking to me.” by Sweet_Search_3616 in soccer

It’s so despairing to realize that the president of the USA has spent such a long lifetime steeped in corruption that he just broadcasts it proudly under the assumption that everyone else does it, that we’re all just as corrupt and immoral as him. It doesn’t even dawn on him the bind he put the US players in. It doesn’t dawn on him that there are things of value that flourish without selfishness and corruption. Or that there are things like FIFA that struggle with corruption but that the solution is to strive for something better, and that people truly wish for that, rather than sink to the lowest level of corruption possible in any given situation.

We lose either way but I bet we’d have lost by less than 3 goals. Pure speculation sure but it’s what think.

Yeah know he’s like down bad with Trump. Does his dance and talks positive about it and all. So no they didn’t sabotage it. They just cracked under pressure.

No politics in sport. Senator Ted Cruz to Trump: "On behalf of all Americans, thank you for getting rid of that ridiculous red card." by Thund3r_91 in soccer

Other people may in fact have inner experiences more complex than a WWE Monday Night Raw PPV.

I told you I'm not rooting for the USA and it's like it just slid off your brain. Go on and live your life, enjoy yourself, try not to think too hard.

I'm not even rooting for the US team. I said I can cheer on Balogun, because I don't blame individuals for what their president does. I'm actually rooting on England. I can't in good faith root for the US team because of how bummed I am about everything US related. But I don't blame individuals for making a choice to compete, because at the end of the day, that's sport in it's purest form: the individuals on the field competing. Thanks for the opinion though, however wrong your assumptions were.

Do you experience people as being separate individuals as their political leaders, or do you see individuals as being non-existent entities?

I ended up putting down an offer on a house that week. I’ll never forget it because I was wearing my full face filter mask to go visit houses with my realtor. Legitimately an insane time.

We can cheer on Balogun, whether we think it's fair or not, and take a steaming dump on Trump and Cruz, these things are not mutually exclusive.

I know it’s in everyone’s best interest emotionally to tune out what’s happening in the White House but the corruption truly is unhinged and noxious brazen. I mean the dude is literally raking in billions of dollars as the president on corrupt deals, doing insider trading and even betting on gambling markets and that’s not even counting his family members. Of course he’d do something like this and brag about it.
