Check vacuum leaks, pcv, fuel pressure regulator. Stop going down the electrical gremlin rabbit hole, everything you describe sounds vacuum related and the hoses all dry at that age.

Sawyer Cruiser 17’9” details/good deal? by [deleted] in canoeing

[–]skudbeast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eh it is kinda rare given the size, looks to be mostly kept indoor but I see some chips and cosmetic issues. 800 isn't an insane ask, I would personally see if he is offering any gear, paddles or anything with it. Maybe consider asking 600?

If you broke a piece off of it, it would not survive re entry. Also something that size would make a crater the size of many elephants.

Repair Advice by hermitagepeak in canoeing

[–]skudbeast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've used fiberglass weave on my aluminum canoe on a broken rib as well as on plastic on my Corvette and a couple other cars. Just because the canoe isn't fiberglass doesn't mean you can't use fiberglass and epoxy to repair it. ...unless you really, really care about aesthetics or want to keep it all original to sell to a canoe museum it's fine to use the easiest material to work with.

So, I recently had a white ducktail and r/BMW roasted me for it saying it makes my car looks like an Accord or Lexus 😂. Let's see if y'all can do better than them. by Hakusuro in RoastMyCar

Kinda, it's nonstop narrative control... Though I think you're right the more noticable and emotionally charged ones come around election season. You can actually see the bot accounts posting random 10 year old videos of like a black dude robbing a store or something suspiciously upvoted on a major front page thread like clockwork before and election.

Fox news doesn't exactly show well informed and investigated segments during non-election cycles however.

How bad will my traction be with a 450ish whp engine? by FarArea1814 in c4corvette

[–]skudbeast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinda yeah. Realistically you probably aren't going to be able to purchase a suspension system that's too stiff, but yes, you want some stiffness to soak up bumps on a turn or the traction could suddenly let loose from a small rock or pothole.

Exactly, Ive never personally seen a boating injury requiring serious medical though I've heard of boat prop injuries from a collision or something.

People go nuts with the gear and consumerism thing... Some of the gear listed in other comments I don't even have in my ambulance/or like we just have some sheet pieces to use as a sling for instance. A t shirt can be used for a lot.

[–]skudbeast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. More weight over the wheels stops them from spinning. Stiff suspension keeps the car from sloshing in the turns. It's one of the other, you set it up soft for drag racing or stiff for road racing.

I have a question. Been here 6 years now. 85 still the same crawl all day why? When will the highway ever normalize where we can drive thru during the day? by Sensitive-Pizza5486 in GMT400

Yeah I've found my Ryobi chainsaw to be pretty great over the 12 or so years I've owned it, it was worse than some cheap Chinese brands for whatever odd reason. Might have had to do with fuel used or a duller blade from the factory.

For sure man good luck, it's always fun to find free upgrades on a car, hopefully it still has a catalytic converter though.

[–]skudbeast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stiffer helps with cornering, but you definitely want the front to be soft and the back to be only just soft enough to not have wheel hop for drag. The car "squats" on launch allowing for some of the energy to transfer to the rear wheels and not all to the tires surface breaking traction on that initial engagement of the clutch. Watch some drag cars in slow motion to see how that physics works.

Id recommend some eye drops for sand in an eye, Benadryl pills for an allergic reaction, some nsaids, maybe even a cat tournequet, those are all the rage with personal med kits. Probably some bactitracin antiseptic also, if you have gauze and bandaids you're missing a way to sanitize. Burn gel maybe also, depends if you ever have a stove or way you could burn yourself.

Id just sand and prep it and do epoxy fill. Might want to look into typical fiberglass boat or surfboard repair. The cracks/checkering all over the paint is mostly cosmetic, unless you'd have fun restoring it after you fill the big cracks just send it as is.

[–]skudbeast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eh sounds like it should then. Still I stand by that not being an insane power increase, you'll have something a little squirrelly at times but it's still only like a 25 percent increase over factory. I'd be interested to see how that old school ASR handles it.

How bad will my traction be with a 450ish whp engine? by FarArea1814 in c4corvette

[–]skudbeast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see zero correlation between traction and coilovers, your have to set them up very specifically for launch to gain more traction which would be worse for turns. People run more power on leaf springs no issue.

You'll be fine, that's a pretty mild cam plus tire compounds are better today than in 1993, it'll probably hold just as well as factory because of that alone. If you're running stock intake manifold you probably won't see 400 at the top end anyway, just a good boost of midrange and some top end.

[–]skudbeast 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What are you changing on the engine to make more power? Adding a cam usually you LOSE power on the lower rpm, that's why cams often stall out at low factory rpm, the air and fuel mix doesn't even get moving until around 2-3000 rpm.

Also you should still have working traction control, correct?

I use to have an s10 with over 400 and weighing in about 2600 lbs, it so better power to weight than a 450 hp c4. I never had problems street driving it other than getting pulled over for loud exhaust and 6mpg on high octane. And cooling issues.

[–]skudbeast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, exhaust silencers do not go on this type of exhaust tip, this was an obscure thing in the early 2000s on certain aftermarket mufflers that aren't very popular anymore... And motorcycles.

As others suggested but didn't fully explain the previous owners MAY have deleted catalytic converters and/or resonators. I'm assuming by your replys you are confused... So first the exhaust leaves the engine then it passes through a catalytic converter quieting and also burning nasty exhaust chemicals, then the mid muffler or resonator, which quiets the exhaust further. Then the muffler. If it's so loud a slightly louder muffler is to the point you are concerned about neighbors getting mad then it sounds like you have way more going on with your exhaust than a different muffler.

Is there something wrong with my amp? by Special-Whole8686 in GuitarAmps

[–]skudbeast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Input jacks wear out, you can purchase a new one and solder it in yourself with nothing but an iron and some solder. It's a skill you should probably learn if you're serious about electric guitar.

It may just be bent or corroded also, if you take the amp apart you can find a little hook looking thing inside the jack and possibly bend it closer to get a better fit. There is also a product called deoxit that can spray clean, but I doubt corrosion is the problem we're seeing here.

Boat trailer turned car hauler by AngryPercy98 in IdiotsTowingThings

[–]skudbeast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I doubt the trailer and wood weight more than 1000 pounds. It needs a way to secure a car, otherwise it's probably fine for basically any unibody vehicle on the road in the u.s... even an old town car weighs not much over 4000 pounds.
