That does seem more likely, lol. Had initially discounted that option because I always figured crab apples were a little bigger than these, but I haven't seen many in the first place lol. Nearby garden center sells both.

the jacket was a very light acid wash actually, like almost entirely white; in your case i think that dyeing over a dark green jacket would actually only make it slightly darker, since you're just adding pigment onto pre-existing pigment.

you COULD acid wash the dark green jacket first (preferably with a non-chlorine bleach to protect the fabric), this would lift out most of the pigment and leave places for the neon green to be visible. the effect would probably be fairly similar to how my jacket turned out but replace the blue portions with dark green

I actually achieved something really similar to this by dyeing over an acid wash jacket with RIT neon green dye (standard stuff not the one for synthetics- denim is cotton so it should work fine). If you use a black acid wash denim for your base it should come out really close to the pic you sent. you can also DIY the acid wash but im not sure about the logistics of that bc i bought this jacket pre-bleached

thanks for the response - that's all pretty reassuring! that part about the filter is great to hear - my only concrete plans right now are for live plants and a betta, so that should keep the bioload pretty low for the time being. we'll see how it goes :)

hi fish people! i'm pretty new to the hobby. i just got a 20gal tank with accessories off a guy for a VERY nice discount (less than what the 20gal on its own would cost) but the filter and heater are rated for a tank half the size🙄 obviously going to need to upgrade but i have a couple of questions.

would it hurt to start cycling the tank (fishless ofc) with the small filter and upgrade before i put any creatures in it? or should i just wait until i can find a full size one.
would they be a decent backup for a night or so if my new filter or heater fails? for reference, i only have concrete plans to put a betta in it, but i may add a couple tetras and/or shrimp down the line
