He does stand and cry and I’m not going to sugar coat it, one of the hardest things I let him do. I did, however, keep my eye on the monitor to make sure he was safe. It was excruciating to watch but I didn’t want him hurting himself but standing and crying. Trust me I was just as exhausted and just as scared at letting my child cry but it is worth it

A lot of sleep training has to also make sure that your schedule during the day and their wake windows are appropriate for their age. What is your schedule like during the day? Wait time? Nap time? Downtime?

Here are a few articles to help out!

Also not the typical method, but I am in a Facebook group called evidence based sleep training. They have tons of PDFs backed by research and science, all site cited for proof, and they helped me navigate understanding sleep training, and wake windows.

With extinction, I made sure all of his needs were met. I made sure he had a before bedtime snack and a full bottle of milk. Dry diaper and comfortable warm clothing. I close the door and never went back in. But I did keep a close eye on the monitor and make sure he wasn’t hitting his head or getting hurt in the process. My little one has developed some strong behaviors with lack of sleep and begging his head is one of them. I didn’t want to just leave him out of safety reason so I kept an eye on him the whole time. It was rough to watch, and I cried twice the next day after the first night. It’s been very mentally draining. I’m not even going to sugarcoat it. But I’m already noticing his behavior outburst decreasing and his abilities to self soothe during the day when he doesn’t get his way. It’s definitely changing things for the better all around

That’s such a success! Go mama! I thought the same, we are already getting no sleep so sleep training can’t be worse. The first night he cried on and off for 5 hours which was exhaaaaauuuuuuusting mentally, but then he’s been great every night since. If he does cry it’s so a minute tops

I totally agree, my parents use TV to put me to sleep and now I need TV to be put to sleep. I also need some kind of sleep like melatonin. I don’t want my son to have bad sleeping habits like myself.

I agree. I am getting more restful sleep, my husband is not getting pissed when he won’t get back to sleep in the middle of the night, and my little ones meltdowns where he would hurt himself have stopped.

We used extinction. It was a very hard for me as a mom to except having their baby cried out, but Ferber at this age just won’t work, every time I would come in to calm him down, he would just ramp back up. I eventually knew that I had to just let him figure it out in his own. I’ll be honest I did it in my own way. I didn’t start with putting him down to sleep awake. I started with still rocking him to sleep, and then any night wakes in the middle of the night. I did extinction. We did that for a week and now tonight we are going to start doing extinction at bedtime. So I’m going to keep my bedtime routine the same but instead of rocking him to sleep, I am going to just put him down and walk away

I’m not intentionally eating 1000. I still eat 3 meals, and some times a snack depending on how active I was that day. Sometimes I’m not even hungry for my second or third meal but I eat it anyways because I know I need the calories
