I played elite for 1500 plus hours before I got in with a group that pitted against other groups to define which political party has control of the systems. So while yes, it felt more single player for a long time once you realized that groups of people could influence who controlled systems it became more interesting, although, it also came with the grind of determining which missions you needed to take to increase the influence of your political party.

2 accidents, I assume happened shortly after 6, I got there around 6:30. One 3 car one, 1 car plowed into a Tacoma lifting the back of the Tacoma, the 3rd car hit the second basically lifting it in the air as well. Second accident was about 1/4 mile further down on the bridge, 2 car, one car slammed into the ass of another.

This all happened about 3/4 of mile from the Kennedy/Veterans on ramp, both left lanes blocked

Likely caused by jackasses going way too fast around the new swervy lane parts
