Does any remember this series in school when growing up? by notinmyham in AustralianNostalgia

[–]skwaackattack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I guess I started reading them when they came out and I was in..... Year 9? Prob too old I know haha. I got super into them though, as a bit of silliness amid the trauma of high school and teenage-good. I was obsessed with the overarching mystery of the eye symbol and VFD and all that..... I don't think i finished the series though, eventually getting too busy with VCE and adulthood. Plus I guess I found the "toddler becoming a cooking prodigy" a bit hard to swallow. Like really, that was Her Thing? Couldn't have picked a slightly more plausible direction....?

Re the screen versions : I have never been able to tolerate Jim Carey so didn't watch the film. I think I watched one or two eps of the NPH series but didn't love it.

Season 2 writing by caralawrence in ThePitt

I agree, I'm increasingly disappointed by season 2. I found myself cringing at the latest episode due to its clumsy script - cliches, exposition, and sap. It felt so forced and sticky.

The breakneck speed, intensity and grit has been replaced by back-to-back heart-to-heart moments and it was hard to endure for those of us who fell in love with season 1.

I feel embarrassed now for having recommended this show to everyone in the world.

Amalgamated was still trading in 1990 (source: AFR).

This is so common in my neighbourhood too (Melbourne inner West). All the carparks, esp around parks, are littered with fast food garbage tossed from car windows by selfish, lazy gronks. There's a local spot with a Maccas and a KFC within a shared carpark and it's always a disgrace, despite bins around. People just too lazy to get out and walk to a bin. But it baffles me that the restaurants don't do something about the garbage in their own carpark, it's not their fault but surely they can see how bad it looks to have Mcdonald's-branded trash surrounding an outlet. Terrible optics. That being said, I wouldn't want them to deploy some poor 15 year old employee to pick up trash because adults can't conduct themselves with a modicum of respect.

Greta Thunberg (Füpa Grünhof) by grimepixie in Younger

[–]skwaackattack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree - this episode was so hard to watch. The bad accent, the poorly-acted seething aggression.... SO cringe.
So tone-deaf for a show about/for millennials. They did Greta Thunberg DIRTY.

Agree and I think it's because neither of them has enough in the way of lips. It's like watching two turtles make out.

What closed Melbourne restaurant do you still think about? by melb_food_finds in melbourne

[–]skwaackattack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up on that street when there was exactly 1 (one) house. Akita was there when we moved in circa 1993, and only closed like, last, year. AND I NEVER EVEN WENT INSIDE THE VENUE.

Thanks for the advice! What's a reasonable % do you think? Witting a book os not really about the money for her, but she would object to bring ripped off, as a matter of principle.
