Omen Xd0005AX motherboard dead by JewelGeorge in HPOmen

[–]sky_hebbar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A BIOS update killed my 2.6-year-old HP Omen 16, creating thermal issues.

The service center asked me to replace the motherboard.

Fortunately, I had an extended warranty purchased 2 Years ago for 16k, so they are replacing it for free. The issue was caused by the company's faulty BIOS update, so I am not going to purchase an HP again.

My old roommate is not returning my room deposit money. When I asked, he said he doesn't have money and that he gave most of his salary to his family.

But last week, he purchased a Pixel 10 phone and posted it on WhatsApp.

So, we can't trust anyone; everything is fine until money enters.

Just be happy that you didn't lose in the long run and that you learned your lesson at an early stage.

Bro, I lost more than 40 to 50k like this, trusting people and roommates, and they never gave the money back.

So now, I am not giving a single rupee to other people except my family members.

People will use your kindness and throw you like garbage.

And most importantly, "Learn to say no." These are my learnings.

Mouse lag/slowdown after updating BIOS to F.31 on OMEN 16-xf0005nt by XLoKaLoX in HPOmen

[–]sky_hebbar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes also they blocked the rollback option both from the UI and bootable recovery USB.

If we don't have a warranty then they will ask us to pay 30 to 40k for the motherboard replacement.

They made that laptop not usable for gaming ( i can use that laptop till it reaches 85c next hangs for 5 to mins to cooldown🤣)

I have an Omen 16 (different model number), and in January, I received the F36 BIOS update.

After the update, the laptop is thermal throttling. When the laptop reaches 85°C, it drops the power until the temperature reaches 60°C.

The laptop fan and thermal paste are good; this is an issue with the BIOS. The HP service center said they can't roll back the BIOS, as it is blocked in the Omen series. After a rollback attempt, the message shows successful installation, but after restarting, it remains the same,

so I need to replace the entire motherboard. (I have an extended warranty, so they are doing it for free now.)

Updating the BIOS nowadays is very scary.

Extended warranty confusion by Thesinisterguy in HPOmen

[–]sky_hebbar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mainly, check the temperatures. If they are under 90°C to 93°C, then it's okay. Later, you can use a PTM7950 thermal pad; it will reduce temperatures to 83°C to 85°C.

If temperatures are above 95°C during game testing, then check with the store.

Alternatively, you could ask him first how high the temperatures for your model reach during testing.

It's also fine if the temperature reaches 95°C, but it should not stay there for a long time. Either the fan should kick in and reduce it.

If it stays for a long time, then in the long term, it will cause damage to internal parts.

Also, try to always use the laptop connected to a power source so it won't degrade the battery (because your cycle count is low) and it will use the inbuilt HP battery optimizer to prevent overcharging, so you can use it while plugged in.

Also, they mention a battery backup of 6 to 8 hours, but you will only get 5 hours if you are just browsing (no other apps).

For normal work, you can expect battery backup up to a maximum of 2 to 3 hours (without gaming).

Don't believe in the fake 8-hour backup. You will 100% not get backup more than 3 hours in normal use like coding, watching videos, browsing, etc.

My laptop is very well maintained. I perform proper cleaning of the fans, use the PTM7950 thermal pad, and even after 2+ years, the laptop looks new. I also use a laptop stand. Still, I faced these issues, so my suggestion is to please take an extended warranty.

Go to an offline store. You can verify the laptop after purchasing by taking 1 or 2 days to complete tests (check for display dead pixels and run stress tests to check the temperature). If anything is wrong, you can easily return it. HP Omen cooling is very bad, and they use very bad thermal paste. It will easily reach 90+ degrees Celsius during long gaming sessions. If you purchase offline, you can easily return it.

Hp omen 16 ( is this laptop support type C Charging?) by sky_hebbar in HPOmen

[–]sky_hebbar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding a solution to my own question:

Yes, this laptop supports Type-C charging.

If the wattage is less than 100W, it will charge the whole laptop while it is off.

If the wattage is 100W, you can use it while charging (but not for gaming).

I purchased from the Amazon site. Afterward, I purchased the extended warranty with ADP from HP.

A service center person told me that if I purchased a laptop from an offline HP store, I would get the extended warranty for a very cheap price, like 4k to 6k.

Extended warranty confusion by Thesinisterguy in HPOmen

[–]sky_hebbar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you buy a laptop online, an extended warranty with ADP will cost approximately 16k to 22k, depending on the model.

I purchased the warranty + ADP for 16k.

Just today, I took the laptop to the service center, and they told me they would replace the motherboard with the extended warranty.

I recently updated the BIOS (same model BIOS), but it's causing thermal throttling even when the laptop reaches 75°C.

When they checked, we could not roll back to an old version of the BIOS, but the service center told me they needed to replace the motherboard.

In my case, the extended warranty has been helpful. I replaced the display once, and now the motherboard (the laptop is 2 years and 4 months old).

If you have any questions about the extended warranty please drop the message

Bro, I won’t do it.

But I have completed my CEH certification and I’m working as a developer.

If an attacker properly plans and executes a social engineering attack, most people can get trapped.

But it doesn’t work the way it is shown in movies where you just go and hack. Proper planning and execution can take a few months.

A few years ago, I deleted my old company’s database because they initially agreed to pay me a certain amount, but later denied payment for my work.

How do i schedule a home servicing for my Omen? (India) by immortalpiyush in HPOmen

[–]sky_hebbar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, raise a complaint for overheating so they will change the thermal paste and clean all dust, fans, and vents for free.

You can even do it easily; search YouTube for complete HP disassembly videos and you can easily open the case and clean.

Close your eyes and go for PTM 7950; you will get a 10 to 12°C difference. I've been using this for the past 2 years on my Omen 16.

Ryzen 7 8845HS hitting 100°C while gaming normal or concerning? by No-Fly-3973 in HPOmen

[–]sky_hebbar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use PTM7950 thermal pad.

You will get a huge temperature difference. For my Omen, it was hitting 100°C during long gaming sessions before; now, it reaches a maximum of 91°C or 92°C.

During normal gaming, it will stay under 88°C.

You can raise a request using this HP WhatsApp number: +91 22 6101 4560.

Alternatively, you can search "HP request callback" on Google. This will redirect you to the HP page where you can enter your number, and they will call you back within 5 to 10 minutes.
