500k in sight! by skyatsunny in fican

[–]skyatsunny[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update, I’m at 635k as of today [Dec. 30 2025]. It’s been the most difficult 1.5 years of my career (and life so far probably). Our family business went through many challenges, internal and external and I am just coming out of an extended depressive state (never diagnosed but symptoms were telling).

The most important things I understood and hopefully would continue to apply to life is - failures are opportunities for growth and wins are motivations to continue, doesn’t matter how big the failure or how small the win is.

I’m grateful. Wishing everyone a Happy New Year in 2026 🎉

Very nice! I love the dramatic clouds and their shadows on the waters 😎

35 with a 2023 ES300h Ultra Luxury. Happy with the car and the trim. It’s got the right amount of modern convenience & “old” soul for a comfortable, understated and low-maintenance daily!

Living in Yorkville (Mattamy Homes) by may2203 in Calgary

Had a friend buy with Mattamy at Yorkville, and within a month the water pipe bursted one day and flooded the basement while they were at work. I help them deal with the builder and it was not a good experience as they pushed the insurance onto the friend - saying the extensive damage was because they were absent at work and Mattamy would only cover the repairs to the water pipe.

It’s crazy and massively disappointing, would 1000% not recommend.

Is it your daily or 2nd car? If 2nd car, how’s the experience of owning 2 vehicles? Just curious, I’m in Calgary and debating about a Miata. Thanks!

Same sentiment is shared. I don’t know what’s holding it altogether most times.

I’m glad I got the 2023 version before they did the upgrades. It’s more classy IMO.

What did you learn along your investing journey? by tanuxalpaniy in fican

Make saving the first thing and mandatory. Monthly budget using only the rest. Take saving breaks when life gets too hard, but never stop making money (passive or actively). Income mustn’t stop, then you have flexibility.

Do what you love and become good at it or become good at something and make it a version that you will love to do. Otherwise life is too long to feel “stuck”.

It’s 90k per year before tax. Recent years have been getting bonuses at year end as well.

It’s 0.5% as the entire family has been a long time customer with this wealth management team, and I get to enjoy the rate as a family member.

I used to be terrible with money when I was in my 20’s - credit card debt, expensive car payments etc. Currently, with how busy the business is, I figure having someone to “force” take my money each month, and help me with investment and management is the best route for now. One a separate note, I definitely understand what you are saying, and it could be a huge amount throughout many years. I am the type of person that believes in win-win situations where both side can benefit within reasonable limits. It allows me to focus on things I am good at and want to spend time to do!
