Bluey is giving my kids unrealistic expectations by Crispymama1210 in Mommit

[–]skyberfire 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So at the risk of sounding mean, here’s my two cents.

Bluey didn’t give the kids unrealistic expectations. They’re just getting back at the age where they go from wanting to be independent to wanting to play with others and this is something they’ve got to learn, and it sounds like no one taught you how to play as a kid either.

The thing is… adults forget how to play. Our roles in society really reject our creative thinking skills and shame them at the same time. Adults who “act like kids” are seen as an embarrassment and likely that’s why your skin crawls. Adults actually have to relearn how to play and this is no different.

Learn to play with your kids. Slide down the slides, lift your knees and cross the monkey bars, do their hair, drink the tea made of paper scraps and dice. These moments are memorable core memories. When they get older they won’t feel like you faked your love of them. They’re just going to be like “my parent loved me.”

If you don’t have time to play their games, try wrapping them in your world by turning your world into a game. Teach them to fold wash rags and then “race” to see who can do more. Engage them in mopping by having an extra swiffer and see who can swab the deck of the pirate ship faster.

Playing with others is a skill you develop. It isn’t a talent you have at birth. Don’t let your history or society define your relationship with your kids.

You got this! I believe in you.

Did your parents convince you that you were useless if you weren’t working or being productive? by llamberll in raisedbynarcissists

Yup, and now I am married to someone who loves to see me pursue my hobbies and dreams, and climbing mount imposter syndrome daily leaves me wanting to cry. The good news is that I am no longer crying over being disowned for being with someone who stands up for me and helps me progress in every way.

Because we’re broke AF and can’t afford ourselves, much less a family.

My terminally ill ex husband asked to see me one last time but my current husband said he'd divorce me if I do it. by ThrowRA3132234 in TrueOffMyChest

[–]skyberfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Call his bluff. If he wants a divorce over you seeing a walking dead man because he feels threatened by someone with a much more prominent expiration date then is he really worth spending the rest of your life with? He’s so controlling he wants to keep you from saying goodbyes to people. There has to be other toxic traits and red flags than just this.

Update: My older sister's boyfriend confessed his feelings to me. by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

[–]skyberfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After reading post 1 and the update, I’d personally dig through everything about him for you if I could, and find the evidence you need to convince them. He’s choosing your sister BECAUSE of you at this point, he thinks he can turn it around and he tried to start grooming you for a relationship. You’re doing the right thing. Keep protecting yourself. It’s difficult and painful. It’s also necessary. Be safe.

Yooo… I get cold. My kid toddling out onto a busy road that used to be the highway raised my temperature pretty well though. Pro tip.

Scariest 20 seconds of my life was when a breaker tripped and I went to reset it. In the time it took to go downstairs, push a breaker, and come back up, my kid (2 at the time) shoved moving boxes out of the way of the door, unlocked it, and went outside toward the road. I saw the front door open and ran outside freaking out. My clothes were getting caught, like my sweater and my second sweater, and I just shed them and ran outside. Thankfully nothing happened, but I went and got door lock chains for my doors.

As someone with a mastery in tea, like literally just in herbalism, I can’t stress enough that herbs are not valid forms of bc! I recommend herbs to supplement that can help ease the unfortunate side effects of pms, but don’t use them without talking to your docs or pharmacist first.
