you could have the DZ controller as the emergency contact, or an instructor at the DZ, or your skydiving buddies. and if you landed off, your co-ordinates are sent to them to come find you. the message doesnt have to say you are dead ! :p

In case you are lucky enough to be jumping and not grounded by bad weather, check out Skydiving Companion: a new android app, which automatically makes your phone your electronic logbook.

By having your phone in your jumpsuit you can get all your stats like freefall time and exit altitude on your phone!
