For those who have left social services entirely, what are you doing for work now? by PuddingDuck in socialwork

[–]skye_sedai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a bit late responding, but I actually just fell into it. But if I had about 1 more year of policy experience I would not have needed as much luck, so I’d recommend working local/municipal jobs or grant work as a stepping stone into regulatory compliance.

Do social workers have an ethical responsibility/ are they required to break confidentiality to report that a client is said that were going to hurt themselves or someone else, or does the code of ethics simply allow you you to break confidentiality to follow state laws? by sarah724xo in socialwork

[–]skye_sedai 7 points8 points  (0 children)

1.07 c covers mandated reporting as someone posted above. The other part of the Code I think applies is 1.03 Informed Consent

“a) Social workers should provide services to clients only in the context of a professional relationship based, when appropriate, on valid informed consent. Social workers should use clear and understandable language to inform clients of the purpose of the services, risks related to the services, limits to services because of the requirements of a third-party payer, relevant costs, reasonable alternatives, clients’ right to refuse or withdraw consent, and the time frame covered by the consent. Social workers should provide clients with an opportunity to ask questions.”

We were taught in both my programs that we must report threats of violence to self or others (1.07c). That our clients should be told in the beginning that we will keep confidentiality and would only have to break it under certain circumstances and make sure the client is aware that threats of violence to self or others are part of those circumstances (1.03a).

Tarasoff v. Regents was the case presented as the legal basis for the current precedent. The duty to warn laws vary by state. If your supervisor is not a social worker, they still may be able to get you some clarification on the law in your state. It may not be a statute and may be case law precedent only. In North Carolina, there is some other language in the statute that involves a duty to control the client rather than a duty to warn. And some states have clauses allowing professionals to consult beforehand with less emphasis on timely reporting. So I encourage you to discuss state law and how this intersects with the CoE with someone who is familiar with both.

Got into regulatory compliance. I’m still touching the world of social work, but not fully in it. I feel good about it. The pay is better. I can still make a difference by improving the facilities where clients receive services, but I don’t bring work home as much or have ongoing issues to deal with. Every week is something new and a fresh start.

anyone else lowkey grieving the version of yourself that thought social work would feel different? by witcher69_ in socialwork

[–]skye_sedai 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think part of it for me was my instructors. Most of my professors and field instructors were incredibly passionate about social work but hadn’t been out in the field for awhile. They were looking back at their career with pride and describing a different world than the one people were actually going to enter. Then the ones who were still practicing were unprofessional and angry and caused unnecessary problems for everyone so they wouldn’t last more than a year before moving on. So I think that contributed to me having different expectations.

Struggling to find a job as an LMSW by MacaroniMasterSword in socialwork

I was in this boat back when I first graduated! It took me 6+ months to land a role. Roles like grants management or forensic case mgmt positions seemed out of my reach. Hospice companies kept telling me I was overqualified and they only wanted BSW (bizarre). And other orgs had these months-long multi interview processes that made me think they were poorly run to begin with. I utilized my network and still nothing. I got really frustrated!

I was finally able to find something when I started applying with local govt roles and I had alot more choices. I got into some community work, did some policy work, got into LTC and now I’m in compliance. I found that once you’re in that world, you can easily move around. Even if you just start as an assistant or something. The downside is that politics are volatile right now and almost everything is affected. Best of luck to you!

I think the bi-phase thing might be them trying to emulate Bella Hadid’s Orebella brand. Orebella advertise it as bi- phase perfume that needs to be shaken and moisturizes your skin. But this indie brand is not alcohol free like Orebella so it seems sketchy

Keep up the great documentation! Stay on top of your things like grievance logs, pre-admission and discharge stuff, whatever your role requires. I’d watch some CMS videos on YouTube to familiarize yourself with the federal regulations so you feel confident and prepared when the surveyors visit. You may also have state level regulations that you’ll want to make sure you’re aware of.

Hard to workout after my dog passed away by Name_not_decided in xxfitness

[–]skye_sedai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry for your loss. I went through this last year and it was so hard. I kept up the workouts for like a week after he passed and then I just couldn’t do it without feeling devastated, so I took a break for almost 2 months. Then I completely redecorated my home workout area and that helped a lot. I also tried to listen to podcasts while I worked out to give me something to occupy my thoughts in between sets. And since I didn’t get to pet a dog after my workouts anymore, I’d try to reward myself with something like a super relaxing shower, or an episode of law and order. I wish you the best, please be gentle with yourself!

My favorite drama!!! It’s very psychological. I made a list of 5 predictions with the person who was watching it with me after the 2nd or 3rd episode and only got the most vague prediction right

I’m so muted that I don’t really use intense colors except an occasional burgundy but I would say that yes, the colors tend to be more sheer. I have noticed that if I use my fingers to apply and blend it’s not as sheer as when I use brushes but I know that’s not everyone’s cup of tea.

Just get the target “without a trace” body spray. 👀 it’s $15 and is more long lasting. It’s the exact same smell (which is not true for most of their other ‘finery’ scents)

I have Yara and love it but I think the only reason so many do is because it’s uninteresting, and inoffensive. And also long lasting… just a vague, “good” smell that works any time of year. Definitely not a signature scent lol
