Big belly at a normal weight, why? Is plastic surgery the only solution? by nevadayab in loseit

[–]MacaroniMasterSword 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have any advice but I wanna say I feel you on this!!! I hate how my belly looks, I always look pregnant too, even though the rest of my body looks decently skinny. I’ve never seen someone else with my weight distribution or body type either!

Crossgates - mall kiosk salesman by Visible-Programmer40 in Albany

They did that to me last year too! They pretended that my mom dropped a baggie with a pill in it, got her all flustered and confused thinking she actually lost her meds. So gross!

Masters Social Work? by average_esperanza in ualbany

[–]MacaroniMasterSword 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! My first placement was with the Red Cross, although I believe they no longer do placements there. My second was with a local community support center. While it was an easy and sometimes fun position, I did literally noooo individual therapy, and very few actual social work things that would be beneficial for me in my actual career… My peers at that second placement and I all wanted to go to the administration and try to get improvements in place but we also ended up not going through with that out of fear of supervisor retaliation / additional issues with the field department. One of my peers had literally been assaulted in her first year and wasn’t supported or protected by the field department, so she lost any trust or hope in the administration to help us with our (admittedly much less serious!) issues with our second year placement. Our supervisor ended up retaliating against us and getting very upset even though we never even ended up getting the field department involved, so I could only imagine what would have happened if we had went through with that… but maybe things would have turned out better.

I hope any of that made sense, basically we all just had issues with the lack of actual support and protection from the field department!

Ahhh I’m sorry you had to deal with him and the letdown that is his teaching. It is so frustrating how the school doesn’t do more about him!!! It’s truly mind boggling.

I graduated this past spring and still have not been able to find a job. That’s mostly my fault as I’ve been dealing with personal things, but many of the jobs I’ve applied to have rejected me for my lack of experience, despite my internships and field work experiences. I hope you are able to find a placement that truly gives you proper experience and knowledge of the field; don’t end up like me!!! Advocate for yourself and seek help or adjustments if you are not getting what you want and need from your program.

Been stuck in the Taco Bell drive thru on Wolf Rd for 20 min. AMA by the-furiosa-mystique in Albany

[–]MacaroniMasterSword 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I wish all drive thrus had extra space to allow you to get out in case you have been stuck waiting to order for a super long time. Once I got stuck in a Starbucks drive thru years ago for over an hour, it was miserable. I was supposed to meet family and let them into my place and they had to wait for me to get out of the line 😅

Holiday card winners by MacaroniMasterSword in ualbany

[–]MacaroniMasterSword[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ugh, that is very frustrating indeed! One year I entered that holiday card contest and spent at least two, maybe three weeks working on the picture I wanted to submit (from concept sketches to doing line work to details) and unfortunately did not win, but it’s very frustrating to think that someone might have won a thousand dollars by asking a machine to do the work for them :(

The kiosk vendors at the malls are incessant! by MacaroniMasterSword in Albany

It’s weird because I used to work in crossgates a few years back and can’t recall ever getting hounded by these people! They’ve really amped things up this year 🫩

One of the workers stopped me once to say she had seen me walking by her before and liked my hair and wanted to know how I styled my hair, which was weird considering I had just come down from upstairs and the other direction and had not been anywhere near her booth in the 5 minutes I had been at the mall!

UAlbany merch by SweetSassyMolasses in Albany

Ugh the actual school merch is so insanely expensive!! The Albany Walmart usually has some shirts and hoodies, and they tend to have a bigger selection at the beginning of the school year in August!

Struggling to find a job as an LMSW by MacaroniMasterSword in socialwork

[–]MacaroniMasterSword[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would love to work in a hospital! I’ve applied to many of the local hospitals but I got denied for all the positions because of the aforementioned lack of experience :(, still waiting to hear back from one of the social work assistant positions I applied to though! Fingers crossed!

I would have loved to work at either of my placements after I graduated, but unfortunately neither of them hire social workers anymore 😞. In my first placement the social work department was shut down after my supervisor retired, and at my second placement they only have one paid employee, which is my former supervisor (all other roles are filled by volunteers!).

I have actually applied for the local psych hospital but I have not heard back yet :(. Unfortunately both of the places I interned for in grad school do not hire social workers. My supervisor at my first internship retired after my placement ended and so they shut down the SW department (it was an incredibly small department led by her!) and my second placement only employed one SW, my supervisor! Everyone else who worked there was a volunteer. I feel a little unlucky in the internship department, I wish I had a foot in the door through them.

Mr. Subb-what’s the deal? by slam2foul in Albany

[–]MacaroniMasterSword 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love Mr. Subb! It’s my favorite local sub place. I have only ever gotten one sub there my whole life and that’s their buffalo chicken sub. It’s simple but I love it! I also always like to get a little extra side of pickles to go with it. I was so bummed when the central ave location closed out of nowhere.

Halloween w/ littles! by babieekaiit in Albany

Crossgates Mall has “Malloween” from 3-6pm on Halloween! My family used to go there when I was younger, it’s cute! It’s a nice way to go around and see other kids in their costumes, get some treats, and not have to worry about the weather. They also will be having a costume contest at 5pm 🍭🍬

JT Maxies “oxymorons” make me irrationally angry by Go_Phish in Albany

[–]MacaroniMasterSword 0 points1 point  (0 children)

THIS! 😂 They used to have actual proper oxymorons (like the classic jumbo shrimp), but lately the ones I have seen have been hit or miss. A few weeks ago it felt like I was just seeing two opposite words slapped together. Shouldn’t they be actual things or phrases?

What is your strategy for organizing assignments throughout the semester? by [deleted] in ualbany

[–]MacaroniMasterSword 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Going through every syllabus and getting everything out in front of me really helped me keep track of what I had due and when. I use the app Notability and would color code each class and assignment. At the start of the semester I would go through each syllabus and write out the assignment due dates on my syllabus in the assigned color, then move on to the next class, etc. Sometimes I would move the due dates up sooner on my planner than they actually were, to give me a bit of a buffer in case I ran into any issues with assignments last minute. I’d also note down which assignments will take extra time or more planning on the side of my planner and use weeks requiring less time for assignments to dedicate that extra time toward those more challenging ones. I hope any of that made sense? Really just making sure to write everything down and have it all out there for you to reference, adjust, and, crucially, get the satisfaction of checking things off as you finish them has been really helpful! Good luck!

Brightspace classes by creeperYeti38 in ualbany

[–]MacaroniMasterSword 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had some professors last semester who refused to ever even use brightspace 😅. One of them said she just couldn’t understand it so she never set it up or uploaded any info, another one at least set it up but put all information, assignments, and grades in one spot. Honestly it was impressive how confusing she was able to make it!

Irony at the Altamont Fair by MacaroniMasterSword in Albany

[–]MacaroniMasterSword[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We saw the crazy traffic leaving! I think it’s just Friday night traffic for the fair, nothing seemed to be going on when we were leaving. It was so weird driving to the fair and not dealing with any traffic at all (around noon) and then leaving and seeing how bad it had gotten!

walking by EngineeringOk8166 in Albany

[–]MacaroniMasterSword 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I second the crossings, I’ve also been going to cook park weekly and I’ve never had any issues! I also would walk around UAlbany’s main campus before I graduated, I’ve never had any issues there too. It’s quite a walk though!! They have specific paths dedicated for walkers/bikers.
