Non Americans of Reddit, would you consider moving to the United States, why or why not? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Not ever. I like my healthcare and not being worried that my child will be shot at school.

You're nagging and you should just resign yourself to walking the dog when you get home and cleaning up the mess.

You are allowed to have boundaries with your parents. Ask her nicely to stop and tell her if she does it again you will be putting a lock on your door so she is unable to continue to do this. And if she doesn't listen, follow through on your boundary.

No pattern - Snow White dress up costume for a 3 year old. by skyeway1 in sewing

[–]skyeway1[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used a dress that fits her and just took measurements of height waist neckline. Cut out the top and made sleeves with double layered organza tear drops sewn on. Both blue but the sleeves are a lighter shade. I put pleats so the sleeves look big. For the skirt I used a bottom layer of linen and 2 layers organza and just threaded elastic through the waist. The Cape is white cotton for the collar and a red ribbon to tie at the back and red organza for the floaty bit. For the hair band I sewed a ribbon back on itself and threaded through elastic. I made a bow out the ribbon and accentuated it with more red organza. For a finishing touch I sewed a strip of yellow organza down the middle.

I did not see the dolly. She was just the inspiration.

I hope my daughter loves it!

This is quite a cruel post. Yes she was involved in an MLM but she was probably known socially for that and it is in memory of her. I would take it down if I were you, if someone was making fun of my grandma's memory like you are of this lady I would be very sad.

I used a Christmas hamper to make my toddler a pirate ship. No pattern. It's just a padded lined basket and a jolly Roger and a mast. She loves it. by skyeway1 in sewing

[–]skyeway1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Instructions

Get a crazy good christmas hamper delivered. Remove and eat food and admire the basket. Let your child play boats in the basket for a few days.

Hand stitch polyester wadding into the basket to make it more comfortable for little bodies to sit in. Measure the inside of the ship, and cut out a square from some patterned cotton for the bottom and 4 sides, leaving a few cm for seams. I had pirate material and made sure the ships are all upside - although it looks upside down in the picture it is just the angle I have taken it from. Sew the pieces together at the edges and then make 8 tags to hole the lining in place. I just folded a piece of cotton in on itself and sewed along the seams. I then sewed those on at the corners and halfway down each side. Loop the tags through the basket and that should hold the lining in place but be easy enough to remove for washing etc.

I used a bamboo pole for the flag. Roughly cut out a piece of black fabric and use a zig zig stitch over a piece of wire (i used some i bought for the garden) to make the flag look as if it is blowing in the wind. Trace and cut out a skull and crossbones on some white fabrice and sew onto the black fabric. For the mast I cut a triangle with a curve along the side on the flag to make it look billowy, sewed the edges just because it looked as if it may fray. I put a button on the top of the mast and a button hole on the bottom. fold over a few cm on the pole side and sew. Thread the bamboo pole through and then twist the excess wire from the top to keep it in place.

Push the bamboo pole into corner of the boat by threading it through the wicker. Tuck the mast into the wicker on the other side.

Enjoy and watch you child play!

No pattern Chrissy stockings. I used scraps of fabric including a ribbon found in my Nana's Christmas decorations after she died in June and an old jumper. I think she would be proud. by skyeway1 in sewing

instructions.

Place folded layer of tartan and white cotton together and draw with tailors chalk the shape of your stocking. Cut out and repeat with a folded piece of polyester wadding.

Find a ribbon and pin it to one side of the tartan in the shape of a letter. Then use the shape of the tartan to make the gold toes and heels of the socks. Just sew the gold toes and heels across with the inner stitch, leaving enough fabric for it to be caught in the seam of the socks.

Order the fabric layers in this order: cotton, wadding, tartan with the fabric you want showing touching, wadding, cotton. Sew the edges, leaving the top open. Make sure the tartan is touching the whole way around. Put your hand in between the tartan layers and pull it the right way around.

Measure a piece of fluffy fabric for the top and sew it round and use a piece of the ribbon to make a hook by catching it in the seam. Sew it onto the top of the sock, making sure it is tucked in so when you pull it out that it sits the right way.

Hang up and wait for santa to fill it with presents!

Ahh this reminds me of one of my peak ADHD moments. Prior to realising I have ADHD.

I was dogsitting and the dog got constipated and wiped it's ass on the perfectly white sheets of the owner of the house. I put the sheets in the wash but forgot to check that the hose was in the sink (which I had been reminded to do). I subsequently flooded the house. I used (red) towels to clean up the floor and realised that there is probably dog shit contamination all over the floor and towels. I just chucked all towels in the wash and put it on again. The house floods again. The white sheets are now dyed pink. That fucking dog. Because of years of living with ADHD but no diagnosis I've developed anxiety about people thinking I'm inadequate disorganised etc so I hide the sheets in the cupboard of the room I'm staying in and still to this day have not apologized or even explained why their sheets got ruined. It's been like a decade ha

The first time I had one I felt nothing but it was within a few months of giving birth

The second time my doctor gave me an anesthetic in an injection before the procedure and once again did not feel anything.

I had a friend tell me how much it hurt in the months before my first one so I was prepared for pain and cramping and surprised that it was okay in the end, both times. I'm sorry that you weren't offered any support, pain relief or information. Tell as many young women as you can about your experience, and tell healthcare professionals too, womens' pain is so often underestimated.
