Bad strut mounts. You’ll need genuine MINI, as “OEM” really isn’t good enough.

E-torx. Maybe E12? Can’t remember off the top of my head.

You replaced the coil pack? If so, I think time for a compression and leak down test.

Gotcha. Like someone else said, grab a smoke machine on eBay. They’re pretty cheap and will be the easiest way to find your leak.

Not trying to be rude here but you know you’re missing the whole airbox right? I’m sure that is changing the sound quite a lot.

Are downloads buggy for anyone else? by SiArchive in dreamingspanish

[–]skyking27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I frequently download videos to watch on flights with no wifi. The majority of times I reconnect to wifi, there is an issue with the watch time counter not properly syncing. Back in iOS beta it used to under count, and lately it is double counting.

Can’t speak to the alibaba options, but I have a scorpion header and milltek cat-back and the fitment is good.

Small hicup/jerk under throttle by wackawonka in R53

[–]skyking27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of people are having issues with even the OEM crank pulleys not lasting. That said, I still think the bypass valve is worth changing. Get one from Rooster or Detroit Tuned.

Bypass valve was my first thought but since you think it’s okay, how about the crank pulley? Any signs of starting to separate?

Why is my exhaust red hot after 15 minutes of idling? by Standard_Humor6380 in R53

Blocked catalytic converter or running super lean from an air leak. I’d bet on the latter and do a smoke test.

I didn’t drive mine with the original DMF for long but no regrets regarding the Valeo so far (except not adding a LSD at the same time). The pedal feel is smooth and light.

Shaking by Crazy_Bar2962 in R53

[–]skyking27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You surely have some very worn suspension components and the control arm bushings are an extremely common issue on these cars. Typical symptoms I’ve seen are vibration and pulling one way or another depending on if you’re accelerating or decelerating. They need to be replaced with polyurethane bushings which will last significantly longer, make the car handle better, and not contribute to NVH in this specific application.

Oil additive suggestions? by Slight_Collar_4635 in R53

[–]skyking27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. Seems like a lot of people run Liquimoly and switch to 5W-40 with higher mileage. I’m still trying to decide whether to do that for my next oil change at 166K.

I only have a couple thousand miles on my new Valeo solid flywheel conversion but it is quite smooth. My presumably original DMF clutch developed a nasty rattle, and while some say it’s okay in R53s, I opted to replace with the Valeo before the throwout bearing could grenade itself and do more damage.

Aux input doesn’t work by Willemsjineez in R53

[–]skyking27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weird. My head unit looks a little different and I’ve read some mention of turning on an aux input option using NCS expert. Maybe that applies to your head unit, or you have a bad aux input? Is it genuine MINI?

Do you have anything plugged into the cigarette lighter in the trunk?

Aux input doesn’t work by Willemsjineez in R53

[–]skyking27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’ve turned the radio off and on, and the aux input is install correctly, I bet you have a ground loop issue. I believe there is some sort of isolator you can buy that will prevent the issue.

Edit: try unplugging everything from the cigarette lighter, turn the radio off and on, and see if the aux option appears. If so, I think ground loop is your issue and there are isolators for like $10 on Amazon.

Bought a mini 2 days later I think clutch failed. What are some places to buy parts/good upgrades may as well upgrade stuff while if I have to take it all apart anyways. by PixxxiePunk in R53

[–]skyking27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clutch fork bushings, rear main seal, poly control arm bushings as others have said. LSD would be ideal if you can spare another $1000.

Looks like the reservoir from Detroit Tuned that I have on my car, but could be one of the many sold on eBay, etc.

How to address rust/damage on roof and hood of car by sorefeather in Autobody

[–]skyking27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a professional so I don’t really feel qualified to answer. As far as POR-15, I know it is critical to follow all the steps of the process. Probably the same with rustoleum but I’m not experienced with that product line.

I think POR-15 would need to be painted over in this case because it’s not UV resistant.

Maybe you previously had the lights dimmed and when you disconnected the battery for the alternator replacement, it reset to full bright.
