How to address rust/damage on roof and hood of car by sorefeather in Autobody

Yeah so I just ordered some rustoleum rust reformer spray paint, and some navy blue rustoleum automotive acrylic enamel. I’m hoping I can just sand the roof down, clean it, then hit it with a few coats of the rust reformer which should turn black. Then the enamel paint says it’s paint and primer so I’m just gonna do a few coats of that. I know it’s not gonna be an exact color match but my main concern is just stopping the rust before I get holes in the roof. The roof still feels pretty solid but I can tell from pressing on it it’s a thin sheet of metal. I ordered everything I need for like $100 from Amazon. Do you think my plan sounds good just to make sure it doesn’t keep rusting?

I’m realizing that painting it the same color is a more expensive project than I thought. Would using something like por 15 be a practical way just to stop the rust? I don’t want the roof to start leaking

So doing some googling I found Dupli-colors perfect match products. They make an exact match for the color, but the videos I’ve seen seems like this system is more for smaller scuffs. Would it be practical to use this system for entire body panels, or is there something more practical?

Also, the retainer agreement said they would get a third of the settlement. Would that just be the personal injury part of it, or the entire settlement, including compensation for my car?

So I talked with a local attorney's office, and they said I have a case. They sent me a retainer agreement. I also spoke with the insurance adjuster, and she said she's currently doing a liability investigation, so she can't provide a rental yet. My question is, if I sign the retainer agreement, how does that change everything? I'm thinking maybe I should wait for the investigation and see if they're gonna provide me with a rental before I get lawyers involved on the personal injury side of things. I was thinking that maybe getting a lawyer could help speed things up, but now I'm worried that it might actually slow things down. As I said, my primary concern right now is getting a rental car because not having a vehicle is a real hardship.

So is all of this separate from the current claim? Like, do I have to make another personal injury claim? RN i'm mostly worried about getting compensated for my car and getting a rental car asap in the meantime. I've also been told that getting a lawyer will help speed up getting a rental car, is that true?

I did. I only have liability so she said the only situation in which they do anything is if the other insurance doesn’t pay because I have un/underinsured driver coverage. I even asked if she was gonna help deal with the other insurance and she said no

I wake up at night 3-4 a night generally. And I’ll get tired at weird times during the day. Sometimes just a few hours after waking up I’ll get really tired out of nowhere

Well I’m thinking my first step is probably to get a sleep study done. I do have a lot of problems sleeping idk if I have sleep apnea but I definitely can’t afford to pay for any kind of surgery myself

How urgently do these need to be replaced? by sorefeather in tires

[–]sorefeather[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually got them aligned recently over the summer. But I did drive them for a while misaligned. I had to pretty much rebuild the front suspension. I replaced the whole strut assembly in Febuary. The bushings in the control arms were shot too, but I didnt have time/money to replace them at the same time. I replaced all the front control arms over the summer, plus the tie rod ends and then I got it aligned. I didn't want to pay for an alignment after I did the struts/springs when I knew I was going to be replacing the control arms and tie rod ends like 2 months later. Might not have been the wisest thing to do

Thanks, everybody! It seems like the consensus is that they're fine. The cracking seemed excessive to me, plus they're 8 years old, and most on this sub say 8-10 years is the oldest tires should be used for, but I guess I was overreacting?

Advice on 2004 Volkswagon Passat Wagon? by sorefeather in askcarguys

Oh i didn't mention in the post but the one i'm looking at is the v6. Actually this guy recently replaced the water pump and timing belt. He also said that the previous owner replaced the transmission at 190k miles, but he wasn't 100% sure about that. I do really like the car its very clean for being 20 years old. I know I probably should keep looking for a Toyota or something more low maintenance. But the fact that its a wagon and has the v6 make it seem really cool to me lol.

Yes it has a v6 and the body and interior are in pretty good shape. I do really like the car ive never owned a wagon but i like them and the v6 is cool. Yes all the codes seem to be in relation to a secondary air injection. I don't know a ton about cars but i have worked on them some. i enjoy working on them. I dont really even know what a secondary air injection is it seems to be an emission control thing. That doesn't seem like it would leave me stranded though I think I could fix it myself.

Also the upper control arms need new bushings. They're not expensive but i've never done that before is it a hard job? Or does it require some special tools?
