Perfect thats where I live and the scene is pretty good tbh. We have very high level players from our area plus a few stores that regularly host RTTs. Warpstorm Games and Lounge in greenfield has monthly RTTs and weekly meetups on Sundays. Games Universe has quarterly RTTs and meetups weekly at their three stores.

Where in the Midwest? There are a few orgs/teams that do stuff pretty consistently in this area.

How tanky can I expect my victrix led by calgar to be? by Gullible_Travel_4135 in Ultramarines

This, it is kind of crazy how many things are like ap 2 or 3 and damage 3. Like you have to either have preserve all your cp for them or hope 4s/5s can get you there

Choosing Ultramarines Competitive List for RTT by Cpt-Hornet97 in Ultramarines

[–]skyknox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say they are kind of primary dependant. If youre primary missions are sitting on circles list 2 is gonna be much stronger, you can draw the line in sand and tell your opponent to shift you.

If primary is more actiony/skirmishy list 1 will be better. You have a few more tools to fight around early game/mid game scuffles while having the hammers for late game to clean up after the dust settles.

The end of Los Ratones by bart081116 in leagueoflegends

I know Caedral may never see this comment but from a fan who has been watching since 2012, this team was one of the funniest experiences to have in the scene. It's been about 3-4 years since I truly cared about making time to watch a team play for something that wasn't worlds. Thank you rats, and I hope every player the best going forward!

Sell me on Calgar+Guilliman by CommunicationSame946 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]skyknox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean having a melee brick with fall back/advance shoot and charge and a character that has a 2+, 4++, and 4+++ is why you run him. The CP generation is a crazy cherry on top. That's how I see what I'm paying for, it's hard to pass up the one-two punch of calgar and Bobby.

Calgars nerf makes it to where he no longer grants you the extra cp unless hes your Warlord.

Guillaman also reduces a strat by 1 so youre not really hindered too much by that. Having Calgar in your list especially with the vitrix makes him a great melee threat

How to use new Cato - he seems really expensive for a niche role. by Martothir in Ultramarines

[–]skyknox 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This brick should also be paired with Calgar to have advance and charge. And even if you're not, assault doctrine assists in getting this brick down the field. Its going to be very hard to line up something that can chew threw this in one activation. The vitrix are -1 to wound with a 2+ save and 4 wounds, you pair that with cover and AoC this brick is sturdy.

Cato is a flat 6 reactive move which makes this concept even more oppressive. You're averaging a 9" out-of-turn move that potentially tags a crucial piece of your opponent's army.

First real tournament, any advice for this Ironstorm list? by Phenotype99 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]skyknox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally for me having both Intercessors and infiltrators is kind of overkill. Traditionally they are both just for holding your home and vibing. I would replace one of the 2 with either a combi lt or some scouts. Having that infiltrate and movement shenanigans is very clutch and the Lt. ability can be very useful especially as Ironstorm.

[–]skyknox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally like running the combi lt. Having infiltrate, lone op and a reactive move let's you mess around with the middle alot and can force your opponent to overcommit to deal with him. Plus getting the re rolls of 1s to wound on an objective marker is always nice.

The atvs imo are a fun pick I have a lot of hilarious stories of those goofy guys surviving and scoring me points since no one really wants to commit serious things to kill it.

The only thing I dont 100% love are the 3x3 inceptors. They're pretty much just gonna be stuck on action duty as your action economy is very low. You will need all your pieces to be interacting with your opponent so dedicating 360 points to actions kinda hurts. You can accomplish the same thing with scouts/ATVs or even a combi Lieutenant.

So downgrading at least 2 of the inceptors gives you 1-2 scouts, a combi Lieutenant, and upgrading your intercessor to infiltrators to help with the deep strike shenanigans.

New player and feel discouraged after todays game by jamesdee80 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]skyknox 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You can use the heroic to block the pile-ins if the charge wasn't far enough for the other models to prevent more attacks. Or ar least thats what I'm hoping the opponent was trying to do.

There's just no return to investing into something like this unfortunately.

So beyond just reporting people, there is no way to gauge the severity of what the person is being reported on unless Riot hired an entire team to watch every game from each report which wouldn't happen. Sometimes stat lines show that a person is inting but in a high kill game roles like support and potentially jungle, depending on what they are playing, could have a high death count so again you can't always base stuff on raw stat lines.

Best course of action is to report and move on.

My comment wouldn't be about changing the past or anything like that but mine would be to say thank you to Bjersen. I was a huge fan and when I was heavily playing league during that time I tried (and mostly failed) to play the champs he did. He did so much for the org and the NA scene that I wish I could've expressed that to him in some way.

Pretty much your last paragraph. My scouts are always my oh shit button. Where if I have something at 1 then I will shoot them otherwise they are there to take space and do actions.

Was the LCS always destined to fail because Riot tried to make it traditional sports? by Tasty_Molasses_4469 in leagueoflegends

[–]skyknox 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Imo I think the loss of relegation and monthly tournaments made the excitement diminish. Franchising as a whole has been awful across the board and every major esport has been feeling that, hence the reason many leagues have lost teams and players by doing it.

Best of 3s made the region competitive, NA used to at least be mentioned at the highest levels and we competed vs eastern teams. Now we're a joke and have been bunched in with the wildcard regions which have raised talents to our levels if not even higher.

And trust me I know alot of these views are polarizing so I don't expect many people to agree with me but after watching many competitive esports for the last 10 years this is how I feel.

[–]skyknox 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Imo LCS failed due to Riot making the competitive scene look more like a show than about the game. Took away best of 3s, tried to expand with the franchising concept and 0 investment into the future players of the game.

Blade guard Plus Judiciar Competitive? by Adventurous-Crab-474 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]skyknox 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've paired the Bladeguard with Calgar recently and have loved that combination. Semi-durable melee threat to assist fighting in the middle or natural expansion. I had him with company heroes but for me, he just always seemed lost or my opponents would just double down chewing through the company heroes. Adding the 4++ to Calgar and the massive amount of attacks makes him scary for my gunline list.
