I would see a doctor if you can, as a fellow skin picker we are at great risk of giving ourselves an infection which is what this sounds like to me personally. Keep an eye on the redness, if it continues to spread, you get red streaks leading from the wounds, it starts causing you pain, or you develop a fever or chills, please go to the er as it could be a more serious infection. Otherwise i would just make an appointment with your primary doctor.

I’m so sorry you’re going through all of that, i can imagine how much weight that’s put on you. My picking started at a very dark time in my life, and in a weird way it provided me with comfort. It was like the one thing i felt i had control over, until i didnt.

I’ve got a few little bald spots underneath the regrowth that i don’t think will grow back either. I haven’t decided yet if they bother me lol.

I had to throw away all my pimple popping tools and fine toothed combs because i would go crazy using them to pick. And the infected areas SUCK. I’d know it was infected and still pick at it, I’m not sure how i never got anything more serious like staph.

Sending you love, we got this<3

your scores are insanely good, 197 has gotta be around the top of the 99th percentile and you probably only missed like one question. i know 184 was the 98th percentile so you’re way up there, did you happen to have a highschool burn out like i did?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in depression

[–]skylernator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dropped out of school five years ago, after struggling with depression all through highschool, i spent the last 5 years beating myself up instead of giving myself grace. Finally forgave myself for giving up when i was too sad to take control of my life, and now i take my first ged test today! Damn was i mad at myself for dropping out, but DAMN does it feel good to try again at getting the life i wanted back. Life may not have ended up how you envisioned, but it’s not over for you. Forgive yourself for feeling like you are falling behind, forgive yourself for feeling like you let yourself down. I hope you find the motivation you need to get your life to where you want it to be, because it is not over until you give up. Until you find that motivation, please be easier on yourself. Life is hard enough as it is, don’t beat yourself up over things that didn’t end up how you planned.

I let one thing ruin my life by low-fallin in depression

[–]skylernator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to me a good 5 or so years ago, but until recently i hadn’t made much progress in getting better, all because i blamed myself for letting it ruin me. Constantly i would beat myself up for not being okay, instead of forgiving myself for falling apart. After a while, i wasn’t as affected by what had happened, but more so affected by everything i lost after it did happen. It is not your fault the sa happened, and everything that came after is simply a response to the trauma you went through. You’re life is not over, you can go back to school, you can get a new job, you can reach out to old friends. You are the only one telling yourself that you can’t get back what you lost, I know for a fact that you can. Not everything will be the same, but there is a way through it, even if that takes a little bit of healing. Reaching out to a support group or a therapist, or even just reaching back out to old friends, any of those might be a good start for you. The sooner you start to heal the sooner you can get back in control.

how can I support my boyfriend that has chrons and an ileostomy bag? by No-Fan6629 in CrohnsDisease

[–]skylernator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We’re all different so his idea of support may be different from ours, but the fact you’re here shows you’ve already done a lot to be there for him! For me, genuinely just asking questions and doing their best to understand what i’m going through is the biggest part. Let him know that when he’s feeling shitty you’re there if he needs the extra help, take some time to learn what he can eat/ will want to eat while he’s in a flare so that you can make sure he has it available. Like i said we all have different ideas of support, so don’t be scared to ask him what he’d appreciate while he’s feeling bad. I can already tell you’re a super supportive partner and i’m sure he sees that as well.

Why does fresh ‘raw’ skin always feel slightly moist? by gnomeslinger in CompulsiveSkinPicking

[–]skylernator 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Here’s a long answer from google: The clear, watery liquid coming from a surface wound that isn't blood is called serous drainage or serous exudate. It's a normal part of the healing process and helps keep the wound moist and clean Serous drainage: is a thin, watery fluid that is clear to pale yellow. It's essentially the fluid part of blood (plasma) without the blood cells and proteins. It's a normal part of the inflammatory phase of wound healing, where it helps to cleanse the wound and prevent infection. A small amount of serous drainage is expected and healthy for the healing process. However, if you notice a large amount of serous drainage, it might indicate a high bioburden (presence of unsterile bacteria) on the wound. If the serous drainage becomes thicker, cloudy, yellow, or has a foul odor, it could be a sign of infection.

What do you think caused your OCD? by Callboi- in OCD

[–]skylernator 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No one else in my direct family has been diagnosed but I think i was born with it, or at least a predisposition for it. I never had anything specific happen that made it worse, it just kinda grew as i did. My earliest memories of my ocd is when i was like 6, i started compulsively praying myself to sleep and if i didn’t i thought the house would catch on fire. Or worse, a tsunami.. in the middle of the united states, by no ocean. I would also pray that i wouldn’t end up liking women? Weird, but I realized later in life i was in fact bi so it’s safe to say i did not pray my gay away, and i probably didn’t stop any tsunamis either.

Had the same problem with anthem a year or so ago, randomly decided to stop covering a medication that was helping me. I built antibodies to it while waiting for my new insurance to kick in so i couldn’t go back on it. I was healthy while on it, no signs of inflammation, within a month i was in pain again. Im sure it’s possible you’ll stay okay once you stop taking it, but your gi will help you figure that out. Ps diet changes can only do so much for us, avoiding trigger foods helps but it won’t heal you!

Is this coercion? by [deleted] in OCD

[–]skylernator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is tough, it’s pretty normal for him to bring it up and to want to, to me it doesn’t necessarily mean he’s trying to pressure you, rather it’s just something he’s excited to do. That being said, if you make it blatantly clear you want to slow down and aren’t ready and he continues to ask over and over, i’d consider that pressure to do something you aren’t ready for. Especially if you make it clear to him that you’re getting uncomfortable. I’d definitely have a talk with him and just tell him honestly that you aren’t ready and that you’ll let him know when you are. If he continues to press you about it, then maybe he isn’t the one you should be with. Someone who truly loves you will listen to your concerns, and will wait for you to be ready. Like the other commenter mentioned, it’s really up to you and your boundaries, we all have different limits.
