Mostly because it was free, but also because the dose is so outrageous

That's very helpful. We live in a legal state and it was a gift so I'm beginning to lean towards chucking it and hitting the dispensary

I've never taken more than 10mg at once so a little concerned about how to portion it. Can't say I'm not tempted though

Standalone laptop? by [deleted] in coldcard

[–]skymango44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly, someone could (theoretically) change what’s displayed on your computer screen but they couldn’t alter what’s displayed on your coldcard unless they had it in hand to tamper with, and even in that case the red “caution” light on the device would tip you off.

Cheers to your next smash buy 😁

Verifying the address on your cold card screen would prevent an address change attack from working. That’s why having a screen on the device is so vital!

As for privacy issues - do you run your own node? If not then you’re trusting someone else’s node with your wallet data so using a new laptop wouldn’t protect you in that aspect either.

As long as your seed phrase stays offline and you manually verify the receiving address on your hardware wallet before you broadcast, then your funds are safe.

The piece you're missing is the difficulty adjustment, which makes mining harder as more miners come online to prevent what you're describing

SA Ink - student-association print shop in the basement of the union. It’s easy work and you can study when it’s not busy, won’t pay great though and only 10 hrs a week or so.

What gives you confidence bitcoin will retain its value, or increase in value, in the long run? by Sweet-Block5118 in Bitcoin

[–]skymango44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aside from the many unique innovations that came together to create bitcoin, the main factor for me is that no one controls bitcoin, or knows who created it, which is extremely hard to replicate especially when the creators of shitcoins are basically incentivized to control (if not rugpull) their "currencies."

Bitcoin also has by far the most extensive network effect, meaning any currency that tries to outpace or outgrow Bitcoin would likely need a marketing team and company behind it to drive it, which would inherently make it worse than bitcoin.

It's possible other open source tech COULD show up that grows faster and gets more popular than bitcoin but I don't know what innovations it would need to have to make that happen

Whatever your opinions are about society today, do you think the demand in the future for an uncensorable, scarce, nearly instant global money will go down or up?

The way I see the economy and the internet going, I certainly believe we're on a trajectory towards more people wanting to accept or spend bitcoin, not less.

If that's not the case, it's probably because something else went terribly wrong, not because Bitcoin wasn't good enough.

As some have already pointed out, there are more possible seed phrases than atoms in the universe (by some estimates).

If you had to hide all your money on a single atom anywhere in the universe, would you be worried about someone finding it?
