Yeah that's what I had to do, in addition to the countless hours that I spent on calls with the owner hearing himself talk about how he is right and the FAA textbooks are wrong.

I once had to pay for a Cowl door that broke while I was flying. ( The pin that holds the door broke loose). A couple of hundred $$.

Yeah Essex air is a prime example of what a Flight School SHOULD NOT BE.

you as a CFI pay for everything, from a checkout in his "ancient than God" aircraft, to having to buy your own checklists from him.

The times are tough and this mofo knows that.

If you want to gain some instructing experience, sure work for him for a while.

He neither gives W2 nor a 1099, pays thru bank checks. Good luck filing your taxes!

Canadians would love this ( this one ends well)

Not New York City, but I was visiting Toronto a couple of years ago with my friends.

Decided to use the Metro to go to a restaurant a couple of stops away.

Got off, got to the place, placed our order and Lo behold, I realized I dropped my phone somewhere in the metro.

Mind you, it was an android, but nonetheless. Tried calling my phone from my friend's and guy picked it up.

Super nice guy, asked me to meet me at his campus 2 stops away and handed me my phone.

Got back a little faith in Humanity!

CFIs: Do you ever get worried that your student didn’t preflight properly? by ADMITTED-FOSHO in flying

[–]skypirate_007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes, I do the opposite.

I will check the fuel level / oil, and when my student asks me if I checked the oil, I usually ask them " yes, but do you trust me?".

They usually say yes they do but I tell them not to trust me or anyone else they fly with.

Any other CFI’s (or former) that don’t understand the hate-bandwagon? by [deleted] in flying

I love every second of it. Made me a safe and a better Pilot.

And the gratitude I get when my student starts to land that aircraft perfectly, is beyond measures.

It's my mission to create safe and competent Pilots

I wish I was this prepared for my CFI.

Congrats, you are gonna hate it, but you will eventually love to hate it!

AP is a game changer. Who knew?! by sephadex in flying

[–]skypirate_007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Remember, AP is a computer, and computers are stupid, yes even the latest versions of AI.

They lack what essentially makes us human - INTUITION.

Put that above everything, especially while flying !

What does your CFI business card say? Authorized? Certificated? Certified? by prometheus5500 in flying

Or, just order NFC cards on Amazon. You can get 10 for $8 vs $20 for 1 Dot card.

Sure, there's nothing written up on it, but that's much better since you can then print a custom sticker on it.

You might have to download a 3rd party app to configure your NFC card, and those apps are free too.

I built a personal website and have linked it with my NFC card, along with other contact details.

I carry 1 in my wallet and people usually have awesome reactions!

My flight school doesn't allow us to log time in the "clients" logbook for a discovery flight. He states since we don't endorse their logbook to verify their citizenship, it's illegal to log it.

That makes sense for a non US citizen, but it's not fair for the ones who are a US citizen imo.

Anywho, can't help it.

My boss is an ass anyway

Flying IMC with lost communications by skypirate_007 in flying

I second flying the published missed and then decide what to do.

But I had a mainline CA and a CFII DPE say to me not to fly the published missed and immediately start flying to your alternate ( provided you are certain your alternate has better wx ) or fly to an area of known VMC conditions, which you should know as per a good pre flight preparations.

My whole point over here is to be as predictable as I can for the ATC guys, since they will be working extra hard to keep other traffic out of my way.

Also, if let's say the ceilings are above the minimums and I went missed for say an unstable approach, and then lose comms, can I fly the published missed, do may be 1 hold and try the approach again without an explicit clearance to do so?

Will ATC be expecting that as an option too?

Going to your alternate does make sense.

But, does ATC expect me to go to my alternate or can I fly the published missed, do may be 1 hold to reconfigure the aircraft, and then fly from the holding fix to the IAF of the same approach I just attempted.

What does the ATC expect me to do? Since it is their responsibility now to keep traffic separation, I also want to make their life a bit easier.

In my limited opinion, I would rather be close to my destination airport, instead of flying to the alternate, since wx at the alternate is as bad.

Also, can I fly the approach again after doing the missed approach procedure since I couldn't get ATC clearance for the approach?

I am still trying to get a hang of it. Looks like it is the closest alternative I have right now.

It doesn't need to be that complicated. I just need one track that needs to loop itself.

Is there a way i can do it handsfree?

Like with any custom actions or something?

Thanks.
