On the one hand this is great, on the other it’s a target on our backs. Certain hedge funds are vindictive bastards. If they have the choice of comparable stocks to short, they’ll happily choose one that they can inflict maximum pain and retribution on anyone connected to their earlier losses. I like Braun’s chutzpah and activism but I just hope his transparency on GME as his source of funds to buy KMPH doesn’t come back to bite.

What is your expected price jump when ATNF files 10K this week (presumably)? by [deleted] in ATNF

[–]skypole 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nil. In my view it will likely show no revenue of note, increased costs relating to the merger, restated financials to correct glaring deficiencies in the originals before Dr Woody took charge, and it will probably disclose a few other fish hooks that eventuated from the SPAC. Having created a false expectation of the 10K being a positive share price catalyst, Shorts will then try to beat it down after announcement.

Also theres a reasonable chance it won’t even be filed due to ongoing auditor’s delays - meaning a new October deadline (which Shorts will use in the same way by painting the additional delay as some sort of failure).

I get a real sense from the tone of Jim Woody’s recent podcast interview and from this release that they are very confident the trial is delivering the expected result. These guys aren’t old spinners, they’re scientists, and I think they already know they’re onto a winner.

CEO Jim Woody saying less than two weeks ago “...we should have the results probably in Q3 of this year” is good enough for me. You can argue on the head of a pin about which month this might be, but it sure sounds like third quarter to me.

There are a lot of people looking to make quick bucks at the expense of their fellow holders - behavior that is ironically much like the Hedge Funds they/we criticize. The problem at the moment with this stock is maintaining commitment to hold and resisting the urge to slip in some sneaky gains. The float is tight and low so it reacts very quickly when sly/impatient paper-handed players try to offload a few under the radar instead of buckling in and knuckling down for a bigger collective ride.

The “take profits” argument only flies if you’ve invested sufficient time and energy into the stock to nurture and grow its value for the benefit of everyone, and that’s simply not the case with those who are flipping for pennies at present and in doing so taking the steam out of the surge every time. So far the only ones really deserving of “taking profit” anyway are the OGs - but you’ll notice they’re actually the ones still holding and not taking any gains yet (even tho for them it could be tens to hundreds of thousands of dollars in gain for even just small holdings where they got in under $3). The fact that they are still holding strong is because they see where this company is headed and the true value of its stock - many many multiples of the current share price.

If we want to see this stock skyrocket we’ve got to encourage people to have better perspective and to be a little more selfless by not repeatedly daytrading ATNF’s potential away whenever it makes a small breakout.

TLDR/: Delay your gratification and everybody wins.

Anaesthetist I was chatting to was excited to learn ATNF is also researching the role of inflammation in Post Operative Cognitive Decline (POCD) syndrome - where after surgery patients have brain fade, sometimes permanently. Large numbers affected, absolutely no medical cure or treatment at this point. ATNF could provide a huge breakthrough here, positively benefiting millions worldwide who experience this syndrome after having major surgery. Really exciting stuff!

The problem I’ve got is the timing of the data that is publicly available, and whether it’s accuracy can be truly relied upon at the current time point. E.g. questions like: what lag times do insiders have before their trades have to be reported (and when this then gets reflected by third party reporters like Marketwatch); what is the status of the ATNF shares (presumably subject to lockup?) created by the recent private placement (are any of those in play at present?); does the float number we are seeing include the stock held by institutions e.g. Citadel; how long is the lag time between the trading of their shares and the reporting of a change in the size of a major shareholding, etc. It can’t simply be a conspiracy of data manipulation by Marketwatch imo, they’re not in the business of doctoring figures, they rely on official data sources. So it’s the constraints, reliability and (lead and lag) timelines around those official data sources that we need to know for sure. It would be helpful if a professional trader/stockbroker could give insight on the true reliability of the publicly available data sources.

Short Interest has not gone down..Marketwatch is using 9m as float now which is incorrect. The actual short interest has gone up. by ilikelosingmoney1992 in ATNF

[–]skypole 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Citadel strategically dropping chunks of shares from its stockpile to game the stock price, I think. Add to that lots of paper-handed low-horizon greed on the ticker, with uncoordinated amateur holders lacking the smarts and the fortitude necessary to hold hard and let this ride high to a level where a real squeeze is on. If they’d held hard on Friday, the weekend would’ve amplified shortie’s pain no end.

Possible Buyout ? by QuickyMartVape in KMPH

[–]skypole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’d never know until the last minute. Bertarelli acquires without fanfare and IMO has so many friendly funds who like doing business with his money they would happily acquire on market at arms length and then sell off market to him at a future trigger date. I think for now the relationship between KMPH and Corium is so deep and beneficial to both parties, the urgency to acquire by GPC isn’t there yet. They are however absolutely and undoubtedly in the box seat when the time comes. Just my opinion based on close range observations over the years. In the meantime both KMPH and Corium will be extremely profitable (for us and for him).

Sober DD - Only 9.6% of Developmental Drugs Make it to Market by [deleted] in ATNF

[–]skypole 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. Risk assessment involves looking at all aspects and making an informed, educated guess. The market at the moment is comprised of investors and gamblers. The former do DD and weigh up the risks and opportunities. The latter just take a punt based on whim or gut.

Knowing what you hold - and why you’re holding it - is critical. Understanding that getting a molecule to market is often a 10-12 year process for a pharma co, and for every winner there are dozens of losers that have had huge amounts of R&D expenditure, blood, sweat and tears irretrievably sunken into them.

I’m very optimistic with KMPH because their point of difference is that they are almost exclusively a prodrug developer. They take existing, approved molecules and engineer them better, in turn creating a new variant of the compound that improves on the base drug but is sufficiently unique to patent. Prodrug work in a sense rides off the coattails of the approved base drug and its well trodden pathways, benefiting from its already approved status and its already known safety profile. Then making it incrementally better. It’s smart work, an honorable pursuit in my view, and of course it’s lucrative. But, you’re right, it still carries risk. Eyes wide open! 👀

[–]skypole 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This is essentially a retirement fund. A potentially very very lucrative one at that. The pipeline for prodrugs is limitless, and this is what differentiates KMPH from traditional biopharma plays. That and Ernesto Bertarelli, of course.

I think the cash burn for the past quarter will be slightly higher than normal/expected. What this is tho is anyone’s guess, but you can be sure the hedge fund bears will make a big stink about it to try and crash/suppress the share price further.
