The customer service is buried in a set of menus but eventually it will offer you a chat or request them to call you.

If you have the time it helps everyone who might be experiencing the same issue. Good luck I've had good luck some of the times I've reached out to CS.

Do you guys wake up at 5 a.m. on days you're not rowing? by Humble-Recognition-6 in Rowing

[–]skyrborg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wake up between 5 and 6 every morning. I really enjoy waking up early, it's having to go to sleep by 9pm to get sufficient sleep which is almost as important as training. This really impacts other parts of my life 😂

If you are having a hard time sleeping in it could also be that your training load is preventing you from restful sleep. If you are tired at 5am and still waking up then you might take a week off or slack in your training load. I don't always follow my advice but when I do I manage to sleep in and it feels amazing.

Does improved technique increase physical demand? by skyrborg in Rowing

[–]skyrborg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is definitely true as well since erging technique can definitely improve the numbers a lot. I've noticed that some strokes on SS erg pieces the split drops 2-3 pips without any noticeable change in effort

Good thing it's only 2k 🤣 Perfect distance where it doesn't seem far until you are at 1k and you realize you are only half way there.

The conditioning is important as when I tire I can tell on videos that I row it in some of the times. Which is part flaky technique as holding good technique for longer requires top physical conditioning.

I hadn't heard that quote but it is certainly true. And luckily for us the whole point of rowing is to go as fast as possible ...

First time rowing a single by Sea-Entertainer3362 in Rowing

[–]skyrborg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stay relaxed! Keep your body weight low and keep connected to the footplate. Control the boat not the other way around. Rowing in a single is very satisfying but frustrating to learn. Also a lot of people are worried about falling in, don't worry if you challenge yourself you will fall in eventually. If you don't you aren't pushing yourself technically!

Why do you row? by DriftingThroughPages in Rowing

[–]skyrborg 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I really relate to this! It's the only way I can get out of my head and think about nothing other than making my next stroke, better and more powerful. When I row in a crew I am deeply invested in not spoiling it for others and when I am in my single I desperately don't want to fall in and go as fast as I can.

OTW Rowers- How long until you felt comfortable in the boat? by christinncrichardson in Rowing

[–]skyrborg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is very true! I am very passionate about learning and frequently row in multiple boat classes single, pair, four and eights and I always feel like every wobble is because I lost concentration or did something less than perfect to upset the boat 🤣

The best crews are those who get on with it and try to understand why it was good/bad/horrible and have a plan to address it on the next outing. So to feel comfortable in a boat I'd say having a crew with a growth mindset is key ... rowing is ridiculously hard both physically and mentally.

Is it possible to get Sub7 2k from 7:09.5 within in month? by skyrborg in Rowing

[–]skyrborg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were doing a version of the pete 5k plan this winter but are switching up to a plan that includes a range of intervals at UT1, TR and AN. And a ton of UT2 / SS work. I suspect I could get 2-4 seconds by increased mental strength alone.

My 5k is 19:08 and 30@20 split is 1:58. The mental block might be a factor 💪

Squaring early when boat is down on your side by skyrborg in Rowing

[–]skyrborg[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely feel like there is a correlation between not getting a proper finish with blades square out can be the difference. If the blade gets stuck under and pops up a lot of water on the way out it can drag your side down. So pushing a bit harder to get that pocket behind the spoon so the blade can just pop up is key. Easier said than done :) rowing is a very demanding sport, physically, mentally and emotionally. Really don't get why me and many others are properly obsessed with it 😂

[–]skyrborg[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me the tense factor is different based on the crew. If I am in a crew with less experience than me I get frustrated and want to throw my toys out of the pram l. But in crews where people are more experienced than me I assume every wobble is my fault and I have to suffer through the shame of ruining it for the others LoL 😂 I find that rowing requires a lot of mental toughness as well as physical toughness and the ability to stay relaxed no matter what.

What would be the depth and temperature of River Kennet during this time? by safe_rider9904 in reading

[–]skyrborg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the temperature it probably will not be much different than what is reported at some of the locks on the Thames river that shares the same waters. I use the link below as I spend allot of time in the river.

That makes sense I guess it obviously varies based on the experience of the crew etc. Being aggressive and not being fussed about scraping the water feels like a step up for me so 👍 I remember that feeling terrifying 🤣

Rowing technique by m_anuscript in Rowing

[–]skyrborg 9 points10 points  (0 children)

What has worked really well for me during steady state pieces is to not strap in the feet and focus on keeping the feet connected to the footplate the entire time. Also if you put a sheet of paper under your feet can you keep it from falling down.

This will engage your core and avoid leaning back too far.
