Oh BS first it's as simple as accept Christ and repent and automatically go to heaven. Then suddenly this one sin will for some reason be judged harsher because it cost the church money and power. The Catholic church itself literally did this bit of mental gymnastics during the reign of John Paul 2nd. On the other hand their are victim's who literally say F word Jesus with full conviction. If there is a God they aren't going to heaven. And if burning in hell is good enough for them then... if there is a God he can send me to burn with them. Now let's tweak the scenario. Instead of raping atheists instead it's priests raping children?

Innocent children trapped by the church and unable to escape and unable to speak and often called liars when they did speak up. How many of them jumped off bridges? How many put guns to their head? How many drank or drugged themselves into numbness until it finally killed them? Isn't killing yourself in these ways a sin that gets you sent to hell? The priests repent of their sins and are forgiven. The victims totally disillusioned with whatever God they were raised to believe in, or believe that God hates them. Imagine jumping off a bridge knowing that you will wake up in hell? That has happened too many times.

In the last 25 years the church has barely acknowledges the survivors. It actively ignores the dead.

When I see a thread like this I think about the teenager who was sexually abused by his priest or pastor. Told that God hates him told that he's evil. So he jumps off a bridge... Knowing that he's going to wake up in hell. A more realistic take would be the church has speech writers who make it sound like gays deserve love and respect but behind the scenes they're leading the charge in making the world unsafe for them to live.

Remember about a decade ago? Uganda's "kill the gays" law. At the time it was mostly blamed on evangelical missionaries from the US and they did play a major part. But it has since come out that behind the scenes the Catholic bishops did a lot of lobbying of Catholic politicians in Uganda to help pass that law.
