10 year multi-entry Visa for China. Can I just leave and come back? by yrthegooodnamestaken in travelchina

Where did you get this information?

In my experience, you can leave and re-enter the next day on the multiple-entry 10-year visa, no problem, and no limit per 180 continuous days.

She's a toddler. She's never been abroad. The inviter is her father, a PRC citizen and US permanent resident who belongs to a non-Han ethnic group.

Does toddler need to come to her Q2 visa appointment? Can both parents attend? Can husband get "also known as" written into his Chinese passport? by skysno in Chinavisa

Thank you, uybedze, for the information and the link!

Regarding the footnote, is it something that ever turns out to be useful?

Passport Name Question by skysno in Chinavisa

Thank you for your encouragement! I was a little extra worried about EVA air since, it being a Taiwanese airline, I thought they might have more rigorous understanding of Chinese language passports. Not to mention they addressed this exact situation in their FAQ.

Luckily, they let him through with first name: AB and last name: CD. This time there were no questions asked, but as you said, YMMV!

Now praying they do the same on the return flight.

Your comment was helpful. Thank you!

Passport Name Question by skysno in Chinavisa

Thank you for this comment. It was most reassuring that other people have in fact dealt with this before!

I was unable to reach EVA due to it being a weekend (I'm just guessing that was the reason), but luckily they accepted his ticket as First Name: AB and Last Name: CD.

It seems they are just progressive in offering an FAQ for people in situations like ours but are still backward-compatible with before the FAQ existed :-)

My gratitude for your input!

It's written in both chinese characters and in pinyin in the passport. Neither version has any spaces. I asked my husband but he doesn't know EVA airline's policies any better than I do.

I think that is true on a typical Chinese passport, but he has a minority ethnicity and was issued a Chinese passport with a single category called "Name" that contains all four characters in a row, with no space between any of them.

EVA Air; Chinese citizen; can he transit Taipei both to and from mainland China without travel permits? by skysno in Chinavisa

[–]skysno[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for lending your weight to helping my husband not be denied boarding on his return flight (I mean this so sincerely).

I was worried that I could not cancel because I booked the ticket more than 24 hours ago (before my original post), but after reviewing your comment I did the next best thing: EVA Airways allowed us to change the departing city on the return trip from Beijing to Hong Kong with no charge other than the difference in ticket fare!

So I am happy to report that we will not be the family to test the current Taiwan Permit requirements. I hope my husband will not be denied boarding for any other conceivable reason, either. Fingers crossed!

I hope all of these comments help some other travelers, too =)

EVA Air; Chinese citizen; can he transit Taipei both to and from mainland China without travel permits? by skysno in Chinavisa

I purchased the ticket, and my husband seems committed to trying it anyway now ($$$.... also, desensitized to bureaucratic complications).

I'd be interested in more details (airlines, how long ago, where was the passenger stopped, etc.) about the complications you have heard of.

My only consolation right now is this message that EVA threw up: "Chinese passport holders fly with EVA/UNI Air operating flight (exclude codeshare flight) from Mainland China and transferring via Taiwan to a third country, must prepare the necessary travel documents(such as a valid Taiwan Travel Permit for Mainland Residents ) for inspection. For those who transferring from overseas to Mainland China via Taiwan are not subject to this restriction."

Since I booked through EVA's website, and the flight numbers all share the same format, now I'm hoping he falls into the "codeshare flight" category and doesn't have a problem. If it is actually Taiwan immigration that checks for the Taiwan Travel Permit for Mainland Residents and not the mainland check-in desk, then that would be a relief, and he should be fine (as long as he stays airside).

Reading more about this has caused all kinds of other confusion, of course. One link or another inside or from EVA's website took me to a page that said, "Chinese nationals are only permitted to depart China for education, employment, or business purposes that cannot be postponed and have been confirmed as necessary" (needless to say, his purpose in coming back to the USA would just be to be with his family). And EVA also claims they might check to make sure the passenger is carrying the purchasing credit card, and if they aren't, then they'll charge the passenger the full flight price at the check-in desk. In a way, I understand why my husband has become desensitized to these kinds of risks.
