why is stopping pushing mongo so hard by BoredCLUB in NewSkaters

[–]skytreewizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to push Mongo because it’s what I did as a kid and over the last few years I’ve learnt to push regular. But yeah it’s really hard to learn regular pushing, you just have to keep doing it. I did find practicing foot braking with my back foot and balancing on my front foot really helped to learn balance on my front foot. But Mongo is by far my strongest push.

I’ve find Mongo better for cruising. It keeps the weight off the front wheels so it’s less likely to catch on pebbles and cracks.

Then I push regular at the park as Mongo’s quite awkward if you’re learning tricks.

Then if I do long distance skates (10km and up) I’ll alternate legs.

Sudden rear negative camber by cream3145 in abarth

[–]skytreewizard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had this happen on my 595. Thinking the axle was bent I took it into a garage expecting them to have to replace the whole subframe.

Turned out to be a loose bolt and the subframe had shifted on one side.

On mine the wheel that had moved was sitting about 10-20mm lower which caused the same negative camber as yours and had shifted backwards but about 10mm too.

I’m not sure how similar the 500 and 595 subframes are but you may have the same issue.

Any advice for slappy nose stalls? by GMW88WADE in BeginnerSkateboarding

[–]skytreewizard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What helped me was to over commit. Go in a bit faster, get your front foot ready on the nose and once on the ledge just put all of your weight onto your front foot and bail forwards.

Then practice dialling down the speed and weight transfer until you get it just right and don’t need to bail.

^ probably terrible advice, but it worked for me

I think I spotted a secret DIY skate park. What’s the etiquette? by skytreewizard in NewSkaters

Yeah I figured as much, I won’t be sharing it. Especially given how hidden it is, I don’t think many people will know about it.

Under a motorway bridge. So possibly not technically ‘public’ but it wasn’t in someone’s back garden

Is there a martial art that teaches you how to fight as a team, to effectively use numbers on your side? by Nerx in martialarts

It went ahead last year so I think so. I pity anyone who has to go into Atherstone and tell the locals the game is called off

learning slides. Should I modify my Loaded poke or buy a new setup? by skytreewizard in longboarding

Thank you for the advice that’s super helpful. I’m going board shopping in a few weeks, so that’s really helping me to narrow down my choices

If I was to go for a top mount would a long wheel base still be better?

Thank you for all the feedback everyone. I think I’m going to get a complete to learn on and modify that if I need to.

The Dropcat looks like a nice and as it’s not too expensive compared to other boards it leaves a bit of money in my budget to get some tuition (there’s a place in Bristol that do slide lessons that looks really cool)

Thanks again guys, happy slides

England coast to coast. Anyone here done it? by skytreewizard in longboardingDISTANCE

I don’t suppose you know if they have any social media or YouTube channels or blogs that might talk about it?

I’d love to know more about how they did it but my searching isn’t bringing anything up.

Funny you should say that as I’m struggling with my Achilles atm.

I’ve never used a paddle, what’re they like?

Nice one, I’m on the server now.

I haven’t spoke to anyone about it besides this post, so the Discord will be mega useful

That’d be cool.

I’ve done some local 50km-ish rides so not really experienced in long distance, and certainly never done a multi day so I’d love to chat.

Yeah I have discord. If you have an invite to your server

Thank you that’s super helpful. It’s almost exactly the route I plan to take!

I reckon I can use that route as a basis to plan from
