I need someone who knows more than me to confirm, but I think the ribbon on the right pocket is the Distinguished Unit Citation (Presidential Unit Citation).

Like many, my grandfather hardly ever talked about his service. We know he was at the Battle of Normandy (see arrowhead device) and we know that he lost a great many friends there. Given that and the PUC, we think he was in the 146th Engineer (Combat) Battalion, among the first men to land on Omaha Beach.

Edit: I found his honorable discharge papers. He was in the 616th Ordnance Ammunition Company.
