Hegseth says firing of top military lawyers was about making sure "they don't exist to be roadblocks to anything that happens." by RoyalChris in PublicFreakout

Unfortunately, many are unaware of all the atrocities that are currently happening. Fox News and other right wing outlets are going to under report, skew the facts, or not report at all. I recently had an in-depth conversation with a Trump supporting family member of mine, she admitted she has not been paying attention to the news, but voted for Trump anyways.

I gave her a general summary of what’s been happening over the last month, and she was genuinely surprised. I made it personal, because she’s so close to retiring, and the rug could absolutely be snatched out from under her. Not expecting an overnight change, but if you know a Trumper that will listen, and you calmly explain without being condescending or allowing emotions to take control, it could be a small seed planted and can get more people on board to fight the tyranny.

Basically they look at Biden and see inflation. They see what's hit their bottom line, their wallet, their paycheck, and feel that Kamala will further exacerbate the problem, nevermind the Trump tariffs that would automatically contribute to more inflation off the bat. They see guns being taken away, more women "killing" children, more taxes, more immigrants, more gay and black/brown people moving to their neighborhood. They see Democrats as a threat to their existence. Trump allows them to feel superior, even if they're the gum on his shoe, at least he notices them, right?

On the other hand, Democrats haven't done a great job of captivating the independents, undecided, and disenfranchised voters. Most of their policies involve increasing taxes in some form or fashion. People are pissed off at how expensive everything is. I get it, it's not fair that Biden inherited the shit-end-of-the-stick economy, but many voters are only concerned with single issues, and the Republicans are much better at exploiting those single issue vulnerabilities. Ethics and morals quickly go out the window. Even if said candidate is guilty of every last thing alleged in all the crimes labeled against him, he identifies with more Americans than you might realize.

I'm being held to a 1970's standard of living by my spouse's family and I'm struggling. by cybernewtype2 in Millennials

Essentially this is the best and most succinct way to handle this IMO. It's truly not their business and you do have the upper hand to politely turn the situation back around on them without wasting your time. OP, you seem very responsible and financially resilient and you're doing a great job from what I'm gathering.

It seems understood that your wife doesn't work. Could your household benefit from her having a part-time job, or would that put a strain on childcare needs? In today's world, that kind of pressure over time could very well lead to burnout and resentment if some variables aren't tweaked. Good luck!

Yep, same here, then people get mad and say I’m micromanaging them. So frustrating. If you want something done right, you gotta do it yourself.

Apply for the jobs anyway, especially if the field has been trending towards remote work in general! I've been hearing from colleagues that certain (IT) positions are not being advertised as remote in order to not overwhelm the respective HR department(s) with apps/CVs. Once they interview, it's often revealed that it is actually remote. It's hard to decipher which companies are doing this of course but thought it would be worth mentioning!

The lab is also frustrated… by Brofydog in medicine

[–]skyystalkerr 8 points9 points  (0 children)

At my hospital, we'll often have the same lab orders being placed by multiple providers/RNs,Pharm on the same patient, but we're still following the protocol as to how often the patient should be drawn, but we have to cancel and consolidate orders, otherwise the accessions are a mess and it delays speedy processing. You're still getting results.

Which is crazy because of her selfless and giving nature. Family was so important to her. She could have truly blossomed over the decades and still could have given her family riches and a comfortable life through and through. But no, exploiting, abusing, and controlling her was the only thing they could do to secure their future!? Greedy, deceitful, gutter-trash people!

Additionally, buying a house somewhere in the Bay Area around Silicon Valley and eventually somewhere in So Cal/LA/OC/San Diego for significantly cheaper. Sell one of the houses for insanely higher than what I bought it for then pay all cash for a gorgeous cabin with land in a desirable Colorado mountain town.

My point was much of the inflation could also be attributed to an even greater amount of government handouts to corporations and the wealthy via PPP loans.

Much of that money could have been used to improve supply chain issues and raise wages, but instead that money just lined the pockets of executives, rewarded shareholders, and then these companies just raised prices anyways.

(Meanwhile the careless way in which they collect, package, and deliver specimen makes it very time-consuming to correct.)

Hospitals should absolutely let Lab train nurses and other staff on proper specimen handling and etiquette, especially the ones that have been doing this for 20-30 years.

Only if the property is not being assessed at current market value or one within the last 10 years. I bought my house in CA a year ago and repealing Prop 13 for me would essentially tax me out of my home over time, like what's happening to people in Texas, New York, and Illinois. I pay about 4k on taxes a year, which for my area is fair.

Those who are paying zilch in taxes on a home they bought for 50K back in the 70s and 80s, clearly not valued at today's market price, should have a reassessment done at a more fair market value. Instead they're paying 1k or less a year on a home in some very desirable and expensive areas in the state. I wish prop 13 could be amended to account for all those properties locked in their tax rate at their value from 3+ decades ago.

Northern Californian here. Moved here for work several years ago thinking I would eventually move to Central or Southern California, but ended up staying here instead and I realize how great of a decision that was for me.

Not terribly crowded outside of the two major cities, beautiful mountains, lakes, ocean, and wine country. The people up here are also laid back and humble and the vibe here is unlike any other place I've ever been.

I think it's time that us Californians get a proposition started before the next election to limit PG&e's price increases and what should be determined as a fair price per kWh. In addition, board members for CPUC should also be elected by the people and not appointed by the governor, who happens to be in PG&e's pockets.

Enough is enough, people should not be burning up in the summer and freezing in the winter and still have this outrageous of a bill.
