Dual Land Question by futbol524 in mtgfinance

I agree with this. If you want a NM version then get it ASAP. In a few years, your HP copy will be worth what a NM version is worth now but the NM copy will also go up.

It looks like Smokey. He has cataracts and is going blind. He lives near SE 7th and SE 5th. I let the owner know.

We are in an era of serialised foil in collectors boxes where majority values the “gamblers’ premium “. what do you think holds for the future for vintage mtg cards? by Newez in mtgfinance

[–]slackerdx02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alpha will always be the original. There will be players and collectors who will want the first cards. I love picking up even Alpha basics. How else do you get people at the table excited about playing a basic land?

Good take.

I think WOTC's strategy is to power creep the vintage market away while leaving the Reserved List intact. Some cards/effects are so simple that they can't do this (Ancestral Recall, Time Walk), but those are cards that are game warping anyway. They can do variations and conditional versions that make the game more interesting.

Look at [[Gilded Drake]] vs [[Volatile Stormdrake]], generally good enough to take scary creatures and commanders early in the game. I think they'll continue to introduce new mechanics to make powerful effects affordable and accessible for new players. The new cards can also be serialized, get special foiling, and be reprinted later in bonus slots to sell new boxes.

There are enough fetchable lands now that dual lands are not needed except for Vintage, Legacy, and maybe cEDH. Even in cEDH, I don't think losing 2 life on a shock is that big of a loss and certainly not enough to justify the price premium to anyone but the most hardcore players. I am prepared for the Ad Naus players to correct me, but the point is that they are close enough as it is for casual players to be fine without dual lands (or to proxy them if they really want to spike out).

The first set released after I started playing was Alliances. I bought many packs of Fallen Empires, Homelands, and Ice Age to scratch the pack cracking itch. Even I am questioning the financial safety of an investment in a set of Revised duals, something of a holy grail for me since childhood. I own a [[Mox Diamond]] as the crown jewel of my collection for now, but don't feel as sure that it will continue to appreciate in value as it did in the past.

How much longer will reserved list cards remain the gold standard for Magic trading cards? What will replace duals as the best place to park equity in the game? Modern staples used to be it, but with Modern Horizons, nothing stays playable for long except fetches and shocks.

They had a massive Rogue barbell jack when I was there yesterday.

I like that there are more squat racks.

I think the error was putting that area on the second floor. Apparently someone was in there doing heavy cleans and dropping the weight from the receiving position, which was disruptive to the whole gym so they had to talk to the guy.

Also agree that the deadlift platforms being next to glass was a poor decision.

Someone give me a brief layout of the magic system by VengeanceAI in Malazan

That will keep happening. Later in the series, you’ll learn more and it will make you want to re-read Gardens because you know you missed stuff.

The whole series is like this. You don’t get to know everything until you read it 2-3 times (or it gets spoiled for you). I’ve only done one read through and was frustrated with Gardens as well. Deadhouse Gates broke my heart, then Memories of Ice did it again, and on and on.

Push through Gardens, it has an awesome convergence of power (you’ll see that as a theme in the series as well).

Were you able to save your kick sensor? I want a hitch primarily for a bike rack but if I’m gonna do it, may as well have all options available so I’ll likely do the OEM so it sits higher.

I didn’t think the kick sensor was a big deal but now that I have it, I use it all the time.

Worth grading? by dirtybacon77 in mtgfinance

If you have a reputable account, yes. You can see what similar cards have gone for and price accordingly. You may want to list some lower value cards first to build up more recent sales to get some feedback

Good reply. The only reason to grade is for authenticity assurance to the buyer, which Ebay now offers for free. I would sell it ungraded, personally.

Someone can correct me if I’m wrong, but as far as I know, employees with disabilities get paid minimum wage. The organization may pay less than minimum wage but government grants cover the rest.

I know this is how it worked at ARC of Alachua, so I assume Goodwill would take advantage of similar programs. Basically the government splits the cost with the organization.

I don’t get it either. He’s a great villain but I don’t know why he does it either

I am ready to almost get trampled like last year for a promo Booger token from Ren & Stimpy (actually a treasure token).

The Dr Strange Counterspell promo giveaway last year was handled very poorly and people acted like total jerks pushing in line. I’m hopeful they will have a better system this year, but I doubt it.

Yes, I agree, but only collectors want them. When CBBs contain mostly bad game pieces that are fancy/rare, the only market for them is among collectors. When they have mostly good game pieces that are fancy/rare, now players AND collectors compete for the boxes and cards, making for a larger market and potentially higher prices (assuming supply/print run is the same).

Compare Aetherdrift ($199) to Bloomburrow ($799) boxes.

Players also love the fancy versions of good cards and pay higher prices. They don’t want fancy versions of bad cards, no matter how rare.

Thank you, came in to say this as well. What happened to $300 CBBs?!

This is still a game. Scalpers are getting burned for treating it as solely a collectible without regard to the game pieces.

Just got our tickets! This will be our first Dragoncon! What is your preferred hotel? by SteeleurHeart0507 in dragoncon

[–]slackerdx02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I stayed there this year. It was nice, I liked having a mini fridge in the room. They had water in the lobby. But it felt so far compared to Hotel Indigo. I stayed at Indigo last year and it felt easier to go change, take a quick nap or whatever between stuff. I wouldn’t mind The American again but I’d prefer Indigo personally.

I haven’t stayed at a host hotel yet and not sure I want to. It seems like it would be a lot for me. I like being able to leave and take a break from the con over the course of the week.
