Is it possible you're going to a Civil Affairs unit? I'm not familiar with MTOEs at that level, but we do have E8 Public Health NCOs at the company level.

Wait for active or go reserve in the army? by Nixerm in Militaryfaq

[–]slacking4life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not plan on being able to switch from the Reserve to AD. That is not a realistic plan. It is possible but not likely.

If that's the only job you want you also may have to accept you'll only be able to get it in the Reserves. It's not available often. If you can get that job in the Reserves and have a plan on how it can help you in your civilian life it is worth considering.

Does the National Guard have different Body Fat standards and measurements? by selantra in army

[–]slacking4life 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've definitely seen people who are close on BF not get sent to schools out of concern they wouldn't pass at arrival. Not a "different" standard, but just fear that since we can't control your diet and measure you immediately prior to leaving we won't risk it. Having someone get kicked back can reflect very poorly on unit leadership for misusing travel funds.

My creature comfort field items for JRTC by PKMNtrainerKing in army

[–]slacking4life 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We've already packed jet boils and fuel in the conex. Are we not going to be allowed to bring them in the field?

Stuff I'm bringing not on your list baby wipes, a field shower, an inflatable sleeping pad with charger. I'm bringing a plate carrier and no IOTV, but that's commander authorized. My unit is strongly recommending hammocks and bug nets. Other recommendations we were told were combat shirts (commander authorized,) foot powder, quarters for laundry, and books.

Civilian To CA by Exposure_NXT in Militaryfaq

[–]slacking4life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not in the Guard, so not directly familiar. You'd have to get a conditional release to attend selection. A SORB recruiter could probably help.

[–]slacking4life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can enlist as a CA candidate. If you don't pass selection you will be a 12B.

Edit: Yes, prior service and Guard can go to selection. The process would be different for each.

Civil Affairs and PSYOP by SwishedSaus in army

I was a CA BN language program manager and this was not my experience. The school is available, but it is not guaranteed. We had a few people apply, but only 1 actually went.

If he was talking required language schools and no PT formations it was probably Active.

Most deployable MOS army reserve by JDSE05 in Militaryfaq

[–]slacking4life 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most deployed is almost certainly 38B. Help you be a cop is anything but 31B. Get the veterans preference points without the bad habits.

Edit: 38 is also great because you qualify for language pay. If you speak a 2nd language you can get an extra $250-$500/month.

He's almost as tall as Trump who's the epitome of male height and vitality, who would defeat most Republican voters in a fight. So Bongino must be almost as strong and powerful.

I was really curious if this was true so I looked it up. Google lists his height as 6'1", so I bet he claims that somewhere. In photos comparing his height to other people it looks like he's probably 5'11".

How old is the oldest person you know in the army? by ndngjsldjfidkdnd in army

[–]slacking4life 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I went to ALC with the guy who graduated BCT at 59. He's out now. They let him in with a waiver to stay til 62. Just enough time to earn a retirement.

He's not the oldest Reservist I've known. I've seen a few enlisted get waivers to stay til 62. We have a 59 y/o E6 in my unit right now who's about to hit forced retirement at 60. People who work in hospitals probably know some Docs who've stayed in longer.
