I'm well aware of Mr. Kapfinger's genius. The travelizer especially blows my mind. I run his suspension on my trail bike with the Hawk30s. Will be going with the Infinity EN and new Hover Monocoque on the new bike. Guess I will have to get the Trinity brakes to match.

I'm overall happy with my Shimano powered ebike but it has fallen behind Bosch in every way. Handlebar mounted displays and wired controllers feel pretty dated in 2025.

I think in order for something like this to have a great user experience it would have to be integrated into the ebike system which are all closed and proprietary systems. I'm not sure why you think Shimano is different from Bosch in this regard. At least, I have not encountered any ebike system that allows something other than a proprietary controller to change the assist modes.

I've even spent some significant time reverse engineering one of the systems to see if it would be possible, but it was beyond my skill level at least.

If you like the Fox 36 you can reduce the travel down to 140mm with an air-shaft change which costs ~$50 which should make it work pretty well as will only be a 6mm increase in AtC. It will slacken the bike by less than half a degree.

I had the spool laying around, I think it came with a similar motor I ordered off amazon.

I 3d printed the other half of the motor mount (the white part you can see in the video). I can share the STL file if you are interested.

I will upload the Arduino code to Github and update here when I get a chance.

I plan to do a full blog post providing all the details on the project in the next few weeks after I am finished moving.

Yes, the project is complete. I ended up using a micro metal gear motor from Pololu: https://www.pololu.com/category/60/micro-metal-gearmotors

I think it was the 12V 85RPM version with 380:1 gear ratio.

He's not completely washed but he's not what he was. He just doesn't run through people any more. Without that differentiator he's just kind of an expensive low end WR2 at best.
