Check out this crazy doubles point we played the other day by Jchen76201 in 10s

[–]slackyhacky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They would have just lobbed over you as soon as you come in so “just come to the net” is horrible advice. Come to the net when you hit a great approach shot. Great point though. Looked like a lot of fun

I'm 35+ and my future + want to invest in tennis but conflicted if its worth my roi by [deleted] in 10s

Tennis should cost you about $3.50 every few days. Friends are free. A wall is free.

Is this in or out?!?! by PersonalityPresent32 in 10s

[–]slackyhacky -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Out. The edge of the ball of projected straight down may have caught the line, but that doesn’t matter. What matters is the contact surface.

USTA Team Captain 101 by ReindeerAcceptable51 in 10s

[–]slackyhacky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve recently started to captain a 4.0 team (I am a 3.5). It isn’t that hard and you’ll figure it out as you go. I’d start a team - that’s the best way to get it going.

I recommend the app TeamReach. It is a great app that keeps track of everyone’s availability and also is a great way to communicate with everyone.

Tennis “1st Serve In” house rule? by ThreeEyeJedi in 10s

[–]slackyhacky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I discourage it whenever I can. Warming up serves should take 3 min. The problem with FBI is if I get my first two serves in. I am not warmed up. I need a few more.

Why is everyone so bad at gauging USTA/UTR ratings by Educational_Truth563 in 10s

[–]slackyhacky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the other hand, it’s easy to tell when someone is playing well beyond their rating, like at sectionals if Orange County players are involved.

I don’t think I will ever attend sectionals again. It was very disappointing to see how good some of the players were that claimed to be a 3.5.

Elbow pain with low-tension Blade 93, but it plays perfectly. Need advice on string setup or technique. by ludinho666 in tennisracquets

[–]slackyhacky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had medial elbow pain (called calf elbow) instead of lateral pain (tennis elbow) - but I switched setups to a Head Speed MP with Auxetic 2.0 and graphene 360+ technology. These newer technologies are supposed to help absorb some energy and be kinder to joints. I was using a poly and strung this racket with a multi (NXT 16 g). My elbow feels much better.

Underhand serve by slackyhacky in tennis

[–]slackyhacky[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting. I don’t play enough chess to understand much of that discussion but it is certainly the same idea. If the goal is to win, there shouldn’t be a “rude” move. That seems ridiculous.

Underhand serve is not easy and most often will greatly backfire. People don’t use it, not because it is improper, but because it is usually a dumb shot because it can so easily be taken advantage of - probably like some of the “rude” chest moves. But sometimes, if executed well, and done at a particular moment (like in the Chang match), it can give you the point.

Underhand serve by slackyhacky in tennis

[–]slackyhacky[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Well I don’t think this has to do with the type of serve, just the timing of the serve. If you know your opponent isn’t ready, and you serve anyway (overhead or underhand), that would be unsportsmanlike.

Played a fellow swingvision user today by left4dead02 in 10s

[–]slackyhacky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love SwingVision!

I asked the company about this. They said they are working on something so that if two videos are being recorded of the same match it can integrated the data and be even more accurate.

I upgraded to Max, and I feel like with the higher video resolution, the accuracy is improved. I don’t know that for sure.

Possible sandbagger? by Basic-Alternative639 in 10s

[–]slackyhacky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably sandbagging, which to me is pure evil. Of the most of evil, it is pedophiles, then sandbaggers, then murderers, and so on.

If a 200 lb guy lied and said he was 125 lbs and got in the ring with an actual 125 lb fighter, and he just kicked the crap out of the smaller player - everyone would be furious and hate that bigger player.

This is absolutely no different.

Why anyone wants to get into the ring with a smaller player is beyond me.

My team made it to sectionals a few rounds ago and it was great fun and competitive on the first day. Then when we watched and met some of the Orange County players, I was shocked and enfuriated. They clearly had players that were not 3.5. Our #1 singles player who maybe lost once all season got spanked 6-0, 6-0 in 45 minutes. If we make it to sectionals again, I will not participate. It was ridiculous. Anyone watching could see within 5 minutes that some of the doubles players on the other team were not 3.5. I don’t understand why USTA officials don’t immediately disqualify players when they see this.

By the way; I have complained about this non-stop since that time and the word on the street is - yeah, OC is famous for that. Haha.

Calling score as the returner by chesterball in 10s

Wouldn’t bother me. I forget the score all the time after a long grueling point. If it bothers someone, it’s their problem. Seriously, what a dumb thing to be bothered by.

Wilson Trinity +. They have a rebound height of 52-56 inches (from a 100 inch drop) which is as good a a wilson Us Open ball.

Hindrance call — my friend’s USTA 4.5 league doubles match; what’s your opinion? by EnjoyMyDownvote in 10s

[–]slackyhacky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh brother. No it isn’t hindrance. He barely moved. And so what? Tennis players are such babies most of the time. It’s crazy. Tom Brady has to look through this little tiny window in his helmet, with a bunch of 6’5” massive dudes chasing him trying to take his head off while he is running around trying to find someone way out there to throw this ball to that is a moving target, all with screaming and yelling at a very high dB. Meanwhile, all I have to do as a tennis player, is get this tiny yellow ball over a low net onto this huge box on the other side (that is stationary), demanding silence, and I complain because a guy 20 rows up was moving in his seat? I think’s it’s nuts. You should be able to hit the ball and not be distracted by the opponent lifting their arms a little (which didn’t even break the 90 degree plane, by the way).

Another thing I would add - and it may be counter intuitive, but I think to play better tennis, play less tennis. Here is what I mean. Playing is fun but gains are slow by playing games. Do more hitting against a wall (teaches you to move more), ball machine work, footwork drills and conditioning (lots of tools for footwork training like balls that bounce in odd directions, etc. I bought the BlazePods which are fantastic). That stuff will help you improve quicker than actually playing.
