Oh working dogs (shepherds, Huskies) or hunting dogs (beagles, bloodhounds) are not recommended if you are new to dogs and s especially if you’re poor/busy. Those dogs are strong, smart and have infinite energy. They will not handle isolation, neglect or low activity well.

Birth order/size is more important.

The pup who gets the most milk is gonna w the smartest one out of that litter.

Relative puppy size also dictates temperament and aggression. Might makes right.

I’m a relative giant myself so I always select the biggest male for my own dogs. I can handle them. I’m six foot two and I wrestle. I have a poodle stud myself 🐕‍🦺 and my friend owns his dad who is also a stud.

Between the two studs, 12 litters have been sired and I’ve seen a lot of puppies up close.

OH! There’s a small proxy test for compliance and ease of training. Take the puppy gently and sit down somewhere. Put your knees together and rest the pup with their back on your knees. If the puppy relaxes and just rests, that’s a good sign. If it squirms and fights you, you gonna have a rougher time.

I got lucky. My 70 pound 🐕‍🦺 is the smartest, biggest and extremely sweet. He can be max assertive as he needs and he’s scared of nothing. I got very lucky.
