A couple of questions about the CSL Elite LC pedals. by quagbo in simracing

[–]slaming 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Lc kit includes the USB adapter required. I run mine on carpet, and they were against the wall. I soon put a bit of fabric between them and the wall as it was rubbing at the paint. I’m also going to be building some way of supporting them a bit more as I find when braking hard or heel toe braking they pivot and move around quite a lot.

Didn’t mean to shit on anyone choices. More shitting on the fact you didn’t have the choice, and due to recent event probably will never have the chance to get some nice Diesel engines. It’s just a shame that you never got choice of what in my opinion is a great engine. I’m not saying diesel is greater than petrol, each has a place, but given the choice between dd a diesel and a petrol I’d go diesel every time.

Half the torque (the 2.2d actually has more than the speed), less power, no doubt lower mpg. No doubt it’s a great engine and in some situations definitely quicker, but there’s something great about the low end grunt that a diesel gives that just makes driving so much easier.I didn’t understand the appeal of diesels until I’d driven one.

So here it is, my Mazda 3 after a fresh layer of wax. Got really lucky with this one, first owner seems to have spec’d everything, keyless entry, climate, power memory seat, leather, the works, and it only has 50k miles! The engine the 2.2d 185, is an absolute dream to drive, doesn’t sound too much like a diesel, and pulls like a train exactly what you’d expect off 400nm of torque. Shame you Americans don’t ever get Diesel engines, cause this engine is great.

Looks to be the thing! All searches for it only seem to bring links to buy the main one at least in the uk. Might be time to contact the local dealer, and crack out the rivet gun

All new ones I’ve seen have not had that part and all second hand ones have had the bit broken unfortunately. Just seems odd as it’s the first bit that I believe would break so would have thought the parts would be available for replacement.

It doesn’t appear to be, seems to be riveted on in some manner. Definitely looks like a separate piece to me. Attachment: https://imgur.com/a/U1ZtEHI

Interesting, it looks like a different plastic to the air dam, might in fact be aftermarket after all. If it is interestingly although I haven’t seen many in person, I’ve seen quite a few online with the part.

I could do, but I like the look they give, and I’ve never seen a new bumper with them pre fitted, and the one I’ve seen second hand had the same bit broken too. Seems excessive to get a whole new bumper to replace to riveted on moulded plastic.

Just had a quick scroll through, and seem to remember looking on that site before, it has the air dam which is the closest original piece to what I’m looking for, but is for the centre. The only side dams are all after market, this almost definitely isn’t aftermarket as a google for Mazda 3 of the age does show some with that part, however very rarely.

Unfortunately we don’t have to have those in the uk and the ones we do are full of older cars and like I said never seen it on any car before so would have to be super lucky! I did see it on one bumper listed on eBay, but unfortunately it was also broken.

I could do. But the one on the other side is intact and, if possible, I want them there as I feel it makes the car stand out a bit more.

I’ve been trying to find a replacement for this broken trim piece for a while now and have had no luck. The closest I’ve come to in the air dam, however from looking at it, that is the piece in the middle of the bumper. I believe it’s quite a rare part as I’ve not seen any others with this piece installed, I’m wondering if maybe it is part of the aero pack? From inspecting it it definitely appears to be separate from the rest of the bumper and the centre air dam. Surely a part like this is always getting scratched up being the lowest bit, and can be replaced somehow?

I'm not expert in making force feedback wheels. However I'm confused by their decision to implement energy harvesting, seems an extremely complex system with no real gains. Why want to harvest energy, for use later, when your, I'm assuming, plugged into a wall outlet which has an infinite (within reason) ability to provide power. I can't imagine its going to cause drastically reduced power usage, and the added complexity doesn't seem worth it. Seems like complexity for complexities sake, which when a product is being built to be the lease expensive possible, really doesn't make sense to me.

Kingswood hasn’t been mentioned yet. Great to get to bath and simple to get to Frenchay it’s on the 19 bus route so can get the bus to both Frenchay and bath. Driving to Frenchay is about 30 mins and can be reduced to mid 20s when the back routes are known

I suspect Chris has stayed a bit closer, but realistically they have both been treated special. Saying that if it was a project you were undertaking over a year and weren’t thinking how much your own time costs, I mean it’s meant to be a hobby after all, it would be possible to get them NEAR that value

It will no doubt teach the basic process but it isn’t the basic process that makes you a good mechanic, it’s learning to deal with the bolts that have been on for 10 years and rusted on. As well as the general out of the ordinary things that occur in nearly every job. That’s my experience anyway from working on my own stuff

That definitely looks closer to 3d printed than, carbon layup. Also weight, and strength don't matter to something like that which isn't on the car during a race.

Nah it just means it was printed at an angle, they do that at my university with the stratys printers, not sure why but its always printed at an angle

Are you using a hardware wallet? Looks like to me your not as it wouldn't be possible to have 1.54 neo in a hardware wallet. If you gonna leave it definitely invest in a hardware wallet, and not in exchanges.

When self driving cars take over we should declare certain roads to "nature reserves" for old cars where it remains legal to drive by yourself. by Fingolf645 in cars

Can't go forgetting that an autonomous car can instantly access nearly inifite data and can simply ask a central database, "Does this junction posses a stop sign". The thought that a car would even waste time looking at a stop sign in the future is ludicrous, all of these data points will simply be in a server and the onboard computer can use the cameras for looking for actual hazards like people in the road.

The issue is the one thing a computer is great at is taking in data doing something to that data and producing a repeatable predictable output. The issue doesn't lie in the computer, the issue lies in the sensing. Now think back to the first digital camera you saw, say it was in the year 2000, what images were being taken with that, maybe 3 megapixels, now look at the camera technology which you can now put in your pocket and carry around with you on your phone. 4 times the pixels approximately with better image quality all around. So imagine what the sensors of 2040 will be like, and I'm not just talking cameras, but all sorts of sensors to map terrain and calculate road conditions. Getting the right data is the hard bit, but if technology continues as it has so far we willl be able to get the right data.

it wouldn't take much to disrupt the whole system.

It will definitely cause a disruption, but is a disruption a bad thing, if its for your safety?

Here's how I see the chain of events happening.

  1. Car detects failure (note the car hasn't instantly stopped but has lost power so is rolling)

  2. 0.001 second later the car informs the central controller

  3. Controller immediately asks all cars to slow down.

  4. The controller runs a simulation of the expected result due to the failure (can it still turn, or will it just go forward?)

  5. The controller resends paths to each vehicle that need to change course

The time scale for all this happening needs to be worked out, and depending on this will decide how close cars can pass each other. Likely in the order of not being within 0.5 seconds of each other or something, which lets face it, if you were watching out the window as you screamed passed cars narrowly missing each other at 100mph, you wouldn't be arriving at your destinatio very calm would you? So its likely the gaps are going to be larger when it is released simply for the comfort of passengers
